2016
March 25th
Cygames releases a promotional trailer produced by P.A.Works for a series titled ‘Umamusume: Pretty Derby”.
March 26th and 27th
A new project titled ‘Umamusume: Pretty Derby’ is announced by Cygames at AnimeJapan 2016, and an official website published. The promotional video had the song Umapyoi Densetsu being sung by the 18 Umamusume, which is the first song ever showcased for the series.
Azumi Waki, Marika Kōno, and Anju Inami were involved in the first day's presentation. Ruriko Aoki and Minami Takahashi would join them for day 2.
The first piece of media in the franchise announced was Haru Urara Ganbaru!, with a serialization date for April 2016. Yūsuke Imanami, the scriptwriter at the showcase, mentioned how the content of the series was ‘niche’ and hoped the performance by voice actors will help get people into the series.
18 Umamusume had designs shown off in their signature racewear. None of them were officially named, with the slides only crediting the voice actress and illustrator. 14 of these designs would continue to be used, featuring in the first CDs and season 1 of the anime, and becoming playable early in the game's history, though a few would have different voice actresses beyond this announcement.

The other 4 designs shown off would be scrapped, so it is assumed by many that the horse owners did not give Cygames permission to use them. The names here are based on fan speculation.

Buena Vista and Orfevre belong to Sunday Racing, who would not have any characters in the franchise until 2023.
Deep Impact and King Kamehameha belong to Makoto Kaneko, who does not have any characters in the franchise.
Additionally, a few more designs were shown as silhouettes on the official website.
May 4th
The full version of Umapyoi was shown off for the first time, and was performed in a public event for the first time during Machi Asobi vol.16.
Azumi Waki, Marika Kōno, and Eriko Matsui were the three performers involved.
June 29th
Umamusume was showcased by Cygames during the Content Tokyo 2016 event, however no new information was announced.
August 21st
A mobile game titled Umamusume: Pretty Derby is officially announced to be in development during the Cygames NEXT 2016 event. Umapyoi Densetsu was performed by the gal’up! Idol group, along with two new tracks: ‘Fanfare for Future!’ and ‘Daisuki no Takarabako’. Announced during the event were the soundtrack CDs being scheduled for November 30th, and to be released for six consecutive months. The official website is updated with new characters and information.
Replacing the four scrapped designs are:

- Fuji Kiseki - VA: Eriko Matsui
- Grass Wonder - VA: Rena Maeda
- Gold Ship - VA: Hitomi Ueda
Tokai Teio, Oguri Cap, and Daiwa Scarlet were changed to their current voice actresses.
New renders were shown off for all 18 girls in the Tracen school uniform, along with revealing the names of which racehorse each was based off of.
September 11th
The final issue of Haru Urara Ganbaru is published, however, a new manga project is teased.
November 11th
The first Pakaraji! talk show is posted on Niconico.
2017
March 25th
During AnimeJapan 2017, Cygames showed off the first footage of the in-development Umamusume: Pretty Derby game. No release info is shown off.
- The visual style of the game was very different, with lower detailed 3D models and textures being used, and the artstyle of the characters being less cell-shaded than the final version.
- The camera is less dynamic during races, staying in the same position alongside the specific race horse being spectated on.
- A map is shown of Tracen Academy, with Ground, Pool, Trainer Room, Gymnasium, and Classroom as listed locations.
- 2D Sprite-based animations are used for Umamusume when training, possibly during a scenario.
- An early version of the Winning Live feature is shown off, with Special Week, Silence Suzuka and Tokai Teio singing Umapyoi Densetsu.
- A version of a story sequence is shown off, with early UI used for dialogue.
Two new Umamusume were teased:
It’s announced that new Umamusume will be revealed every Friday on the official Twitter and website.
Cygames began serializing a new manga titled Starting Gate! on their now defunct app Cycomi.
Information was revealed about the 5th and 6th STARTING GATE CDs.
The first Live Event is announced for July 1st, titled ‘1st EVENT Special Weekend!’, with further details being announced to come out later in April.
Details on an anime adaptation are announced, revealing that it’s a TV anime in collaboration between Cygames, TOHO animation, Lantis, and P.A. Works.

All previously teased Umamusume have their names and voice actors revealed.
A new PV for the Umamusume: Pretty Derby game is revealed. A new song titled ‘ENDLESS DREAM!!’ is played during the trailer.
An early version of the character selection screen for training scenarios is shown.
- Instead of 3D models for the characters, their original concept art is shown instead.
- Rarities for Umamusume go from N, R, SR and SSR, with N being a training jersey, R being their spring uniform, SR being their winter uniform, and SSR being their race outfit.
- The second page is for building a support card deck, where Umamusume race outfit portraits are used in place of support cards.
- The third page is for selecting a friend for support.
- The fourth page is for selecting any two items to bring with you for your training scenario.
- The story screen now has an icon for auto progressing dialogue, an icon to the left of dialogue for potentially repeating the read line, and an icon for either zooming in the screen, removing the UI, or expanding the screen size.
- An early version of the raising stats screen is shown, showing an example of the training on the right side of the screen in a CG.
The first PV for the anime by P.A.Works is released. Nearly all the animation in the trailer is made specifically for the PV, and none of it is used in the show. An air date of 2018 is revealed.
December 16th
Cygames holds the ‘2017 Final Event & New Anime Information Announcement Ariake Memorial’ event. second PV for the anime with footage from the first season was released, with an air date of April 2018. The first teaser for the Umamusume: Pretty Derby game is also released, with a scheduled release for 2018.
2018
A collaboration booklet titled ‘Sarabure Umamusume Edition’ is announced, with a new issue to be released every month starting February 28th.
A stage event is announced to be held at the TOHO animation booth at AnimeJapan 2018, where the opening to the anime will be performed live, along with a preview screening of episodes 1 and 2.
A 32-page booklet titled ‘Umamusume Character Guide: Starting Fanfare’ is announced to be released on March 5.
The TV anime is announced to premiere on April 1st.
March 25th
Cygames holds a stage event at AnimeJapan 2018, announcing pre-registration opening for the Umamusume: Pretty Derby game on the same day alongside pre-registration benefits and a new PV, and that Yutaka Take will be the promoter of the series. The game keeps its 2018 release window.
A new four-panel manga is announced, titled ‘Umayon’, to begin serialization on the ‘Cycomi’ app starting March 30th.
A new YouTube channel titled ‘PAKA TUBE!’ is launched as a news source, and the first video introduced Gold Ship as the host of the channel.
April 20th
Cygames releases three new gameplay videos for the ‘Umamusume: Pretty Derby' game.
One is a video of gameplay during a Training scenario.
- The UI for the game is different from 2017, but still vastly different from the final game.
- The skip dialogue button is moved from the top left to the top right of the game.
- A new ‘eject’ button has been added to the bottom right of the game during dialogue.
- The gameplay seems to run at 30 fps instead of 60 fps like in the final game.
- The main training screen has been changed to feature the Umamusume being trained, with all the icons on the borders of the screen.
- The training screen has been completely changed to feature chibi versions of the characters doing the activity selected rather than showing a CG of the characters.
- Levels have been added to the stats rather than having arrows to indicate how strong they are.
One is a video of gameplay during a race.
- The race footage is closer to final, with the camera being more dynamic than before.
- The textures of the race course are mostly untouched, possibly being lower texture.
- Skyscrapers have been added to the background of the race course.
- The UI is completely different from before, with a bar and speed meter on the bottom right of the screen.
One is a video of a Winning Live performance.
- The stage is new, with a rounded screen instead of a square one, and box lights on both ends of the screen.
- The top 3 Umamusume now have their race outfits, with the others having their normal idol outfits.
April 25th
Pre-registrations for the game reach 150,000 users.
May 7th
Pre-registrations for the game reach 200,000 users.
May 25th
Pre-registrations for the game reach 250,000 users.
June 17th
The final episode of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby anime airs.
July 2nd
Two new trailers get released for the game, with a scheduled release date of Winter 2018.
One trailer features Yutaka Take with Special Week, Tokai Teio and Silence Suzuka on stage in real life.
The second trailer shows footage from the game, with the Winter 2018 release window. The state of development is similar to the footage shown in April, with more footage of other Umamusume in game.
Mio Hoshitani is cast as a new voice actor for Mayano Top Gun, following Ayaka Imamura’s retirement.
July 19th
The 2nd live event, ‘Sound Fanfare!’ is announced to be scheduled on October 14th, 2018.
Pre-registrations for the game reach 300,000 users.
The first store collaboration for the series is announced, one with the TV anime and Lawson stores.
September 14th
Pre-registrations for the game reach 350,000 users.
More information is revealed for the 2nd Live, with merch being shown off.
October 14th
The 2nd EVENT Sound Fanfare! is hosted. New footage of the ‘BNW no Chikai’ OVA is shown off, with a preview screening being scheduled for November 4th.
A new manga called ‘Umamusume: Pretty Derby BLUE SKY’ based on the ‘Seiun Sky Hen’ novel is announced, to be serialized on Cycomi.
Producer Akihiro Ishihara went on stage to comment that the game is being developed ‘with all his heart in order to deliver the best possible experience’. No new information is announced.
October 25th
During Cygames’ financial results, president Shin Fujita states that Umamusume: Pretty Derby is their most anticipated game to be released. The game is still scheduled for a Winter 2018 release.
Cygames announces that Umayon will be getting an anime adaptation, releasing an animated video and a teaser website.
2019
June 28th
Cygames updates the Umamusume portal site with updated character and website visuals.
December 13th
Yuito Kimura is announced as the lead developer of Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
2020
March 22nd
Cygames hosts the ‘Umamusume Pretty Derby Spring Stakes in Cygames Animation’ event.
The Umayon anime is announced to begin airing in July 2020 with a different story than the one in the manga, along with releasing the first key visual and the first PV for the anime.
A new manga series titled ‘Cinderella Gray’ is announced to begin serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in the summer of 2020, focusing on Oguri Cap as the main character.
A new Solo Live Event is also announced to be scheduled at a later date.
June 4th
Cygames announces that serialization of Cinderella Gray will begin on June 11th, and a new PV is released, along with a new PakaTube video promoting the manga.
June 11th
Cygames announces that the Umayon anime will begin airing on July 7th, with a promotional PV released, along with a new portal website.
September 11th
Cygames announces that the first broadcast of a new live program called ‘PakaLive TV’, to be aired on September 22nd, in order to share new developments on Umamusume: Pretty Derby and to commentate on the final episode of Umayon.
September 22nd
PakaLive TV Vol.1 airs. PakaLive TV Vol.2 is scheduled to be broadcast in December.
December 19th
PakaLive TV Vol.2 airs. The release date for the game is announced to be February 24th, 2021, and a new commercial is released. Vol.3 is scheduled for January 16, 2021 with information on the game.
The first volume of Umamusume: Cinderella Gray is announced to be released on January 19th, 2021.
A new album series titled ‘WINNING LIVE’ is announced, along with the new song ‘GIRLS' LEGEND U', releasing on March 17th, 2021.
