Matikanefukukitaru is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"Oho, what's this I see? Today's divination: great fortune!"
Fortune be with me! This charm-tastic Umamusume loves fortune-telling.
A fortune-telling fanatic and lover of the supernatural, she's content to leave the outcomes of races and many other things up to luck. If she's not divining for her own sake, then she's divining for someone else's. She places an immense faith in a revelation from a certain god stating that as long as she keeps running, the way forward will open up before her. The name of the cat shaped bag that she carries is "Miss Nya."

Appearance
Fukukitaru has short orange hair that frays out at the ends, and bangs growing past her eyes. Her amber eyes display perpetual starry pupils. This Umamusume's ears are far longer than most, and she has tan inner-ears. Fuku's left ear has a daruma doll at the base, and a clover hair ornament on her right. Similarly, on her right ear, she wears a white ear cover with dark blue at the top, and a red stripe separating the two colors.
Her racing outfit consists primarily of a simple white, red, and blue sailor-style school uniform. The collar of her top is blue with white stripes, with a bagua motif on the back, and is tied at the front with a red necktie. Her top has open shoulders and is decorated with red bows on the sleeves. She wears a blue pleated skirt with white and red stripes around the perimeter. She also wears a belt with two ema dangling from it, one saying "Great Luck" and the other saying "Assured Victory." On her back is a backpack shaped like a white maneki-neko, which wears a red collar with a large gold emblem. She wears white ribbon-trimmed thigh-highs with alternating red and blue dashes across the top, and sports simple brown loafers on her feet.
Relationships
- Matikanetannhauser - Roommate. Both of them are so noisy that their room is called the "Jump Scare Room", which angers Air Shakur.
- Both share the same owner and the same crown name as well having their names modified to fit the 18 letters name limit. They were also stablemates.
- Silence Suzuka - Friend and rival. Fukukitaru supports Suzuka in her racing career, though she wishes to surpass her. Suzuka doesn't understand her obsession with fortune and the supernatural, but enjoys her companionship.
- Taiki Shuttle - Friend. Despite Taiki understanding Japanese, Fukukitaru tries to accommodate her by communicating to her in English, albeit poorly. Nonetheless, Taiki is intrigued by her occult interest, and is interested in learning the chants she yells.
- Meisho Doto - Friend. Fukukitaru tells her fortunes, and Doto believes in her occult ideology. Fukukitaru also gets her good luck charms to protect her. They also run the fortune-telling stall in Tracen together.
- Stay Gold - Friend. They both enjoy each others' eccentricities. Stay Gold trusts Fukukitaru regarding the supernatural, and she goes to her for a makeshift exorcism in her SSR Guts card.[1] Fukukitaru respects Stay Gold as a friend and rival, and even gets upset when she "ditches" her to run in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) in Stay Gold's career.[2]
- Mejiro Dober - Friend. Though not rivals, they get along well, and Dober even tries to help her find things via occult means.[3]
- Air Groove - Friend. Despite being strict with her, both Groove and Fukukitaru can get along and both of them support Suzuka at her races. Fukukitaru however tends to blurt out things about Groove that embarrass her, like how she was actually intending to watch Suzuka's Tenno Sho (Autumn) in support rather than just for studying Suzuka's racing style.
- K.S.Miracle - Friend. They train and hang out together from time to time, and Miracle is quite interested in Fukukitaru's love for fortune-telling.

Trivia
- Her initial character profile was uploaded to the official Twitter account on April 13, 2017.
- This tweet was a character name prediction quiz, that encouraged fans to try and guess which horse she's named after. The hint was "A superstitious Umamusume that loves fortune-telling. When she is overcome with "great fortune", she shows the power to overtake the fleeing Silence Suzuka!"
- "Umamusume: Pretty Derby Artworks Vol.1" explains why her character designer made specific choices when designing her in relation to her real-life counterpart, which were as follows:
- "Fukukitaru" means "good fortune has come", and her lucky cat backpack, "Nyaa-san", her left daruma hair tie, "Daruman", and her right golden four-leafed clover hair tie are known to be symbols of good luck.
- Since her real-life counterpart's jockey wore silks that were red with blue stripes, a sailor-style uniform was chose for her racing outfit, using those two colors as the accents.
- The two ema around her waist represent her consecutive victories in the Kobe Shimbun Hai and the Kyoto Shimbun Hai, the preliminary races for the Kikuka Sho.
- Shiraoki, the god she worships, is the name of a real life racehorse who is ancestor of the real life Matikanefukukitaru. Other horses who descend from Shiraoki are Vodka and Special Week.
- In the game, due to her being dependent on luck, two of her objectives varies per randomness, with either the Yayoi Sho, Spring Stakes and Mainichi Hai as the second objective and the Hakodate Kinen, Sapporo Kinen or Kokura Kinen as the second to last objective.
- She performs Kagura dances back at her family's home, though she trips and falls every time she does so.
- Her older sister passed away when she was young.
- This is the reference to the real life Matikanefukukitaru's older sister, simply named Athena Tosho 1993 due to never receiving a racing name. This is because she suffered a fatal neck injury as a foal, and she had to be euthanized.
- Despite the real-life counterpart having a marking and a white sock on his right hind leg, this was not incorporated into Matikanefukukitaru's design.
