Appearance
Tokai Teio has chestnut brown hair styled into a neat ponytail, tied with a vibrant pink ribbon. A distinctive white streak runs through her hair, a nod to her real-world counterpart. Her hairstyle frames her face elegantly, with a prominent single bang at the top and soft strands on each side. Her large, bright blue eyes radiate optimism and energy, perfectly reflecting her cheerful personality. Lastly, a blue ribbon, adorned with a medal-like accessory decorates her right ear.
Her outfit is a chip off the old block. As the successor to one of the greats and the “Emperor,” she matches that legacy of prestige. Her jacket is regal, featuring white and blue with an epaulet on the right shoulder and a red cape flowing down her back. Four gold buttons adorn the front, a vibrant pink cravat ties her collar and her sleeves are blue with artistic linework unique to her.
Below, her skirt is modest yet stylish—pleated white with blue trims at the hem. Her knee-high white boots, cutely tied with ribbons, complete the look.
Relationships
- Mayano Top Gun - Roommate. Mayano tends to tease Teio about her not knowing anything about love, much to Teio's dismay.
- IRL, both horses were ridden by the jockey Seiki Tabara.
- Yamanin Zephyr - Friend from the same generation. Both characters' motivation for enrolling in Tracen is so that they can surpass a role model of theirs. Zephyr also looks out for Teio, and empathizes with her when she gets her fractures.
- In real life, Tokai Teio was sired by Symboli Rudolf, while Yamanin Zephyr was sired by Nihon Pillow Winner. Both sires lost the 1985 Tenno Sho (Autumn), which explains the connection.
- Mejiro McQueen - Friend, rival and Team Spica teammate.
- Much of Season 2 focuses on their "clash of the titans" at the Tenno Sho. Teio aimed to remain undefeated, while McQueen sought to defend her title for a consecutive win. McQueen and Teio share with each other mutual support through hardships, with McQueen’s continued excellence on the track served as Teio's primary motivation to return to racing, and when McQueen suffered a serious injury and believed she could never race again, Teio promised to show her a "miracle". Teio's iconic victory at the Arima Kinen was a direct tribute to McQueen, proving to her that recovery and success are possible, regardless of the odds.
- Nice Nature - Friend and rival. Nature feels envy yet admiration towards Teio, and she wants her to pay attention to her as her rival.
- Twin Turbo - Friend and rival. Teio tends to forget who Turbo is, which annoys Turbo.
- Kitasan Black - Friend and Team Spica teammate. Kitasan idolizes Tokai Teio, and she is Kitasan's main inspiration for racing.
- Throughout Season 3, Kitasan Black frequently expresses her desire to be "just like Teio," aiming to emulate her resilience and star power. As a younger Umamusume in Season 2, Kitasan Black was witness to Teio's victories, deeply moved by her and inspired to follow in Teio’s footsteps.
- Symboli Rudolf - Upperclassman. Teio greatly looks up to Symboli Rudolf.
- In real life, Symboli Rudolf is Teio's sire.
- As a child, Teio witnessed Rudolf’s legendary career and became determined to follow in her footsteps. Her initial dream, to become an undefeated Triple Crown winner, is a direct attempt to match Rudolf’s own historic achievement. Teio often refers to Rudolf as "President" (Kaichou) and frequently seeks her approval or tries to impress her.
- Tsurumaru Tsuyoshi - Friend.
- In real life, they were both sired by Symboli Rudolf.
- Sweep Tosho - Friend. Teio watches over Sweep sometimes, and is the one to tell Groove to stop acting "motherly" towards Sweep. She also challenges Sweep in proving that Triple Tiara route Umamusume are stronger, which annoys Sweep.
- This connection is due to Tokai Teio's relation to an NPC Umamusume in Sweep Tosho's story, who is based on Yamanin Sucre. In real life, Tokai Teio is Yamanin Sucre's sire.
- Special Week, Vodka, Daiwa Scarlet, Gold Ship, Silence Suzuka - Friends and teammates on the anime-only team, Team Spica.

Trivia
- Tokai Teio was one of the first Umamusume characters to be announced, along with Special Week and Silence Suzuka. Even though she had appeared in the project before this date, her original character profile was uploaded to the official Twitter account on February 18, 2018 as a part of a giveaway campaign.
- Her initial setting was more hostile than what we see now, which can be seen in Season 1 of the anime through her relationship with Mejiro McQueen.
- Although the famous "Teio Step" is shown in the anime as a way to show off before a race, in real life, if a horse walked like this, it would be assumed that they may have an injury. Teio was allowed to continue running was because of his physical flexibility, which is also mentioned in the anime.
- When the Umamusume project was first announced, Anju Inami was supposed to be Teio's voice actress, although this was later changed to the current one, Machico. It is assumed that this was because of the former's activities with Love Live.
- Teio is so obsessed with Symboli Rudolf since in real life Rudolf is his parent, alongside Tsurumaru Tsuyoshi.
- "Umamusume: Pretty Derby Artworks Vol.1" explains why her character designer made specific choices when designing her in relation to her real-life counterpart, which were as follows:
- The reason she wears a cape is to mimic that of Symboli Rudolf's race outfit, as Symboli Rudolf is her father in real life.
- Due to her real life counterpart's jockey's silks (which can be found here) being white with a blue zig-zag in the center, the sash down her racing outfit is zig-zag shaped.
- The four buttons on her race outfit represent her four G1 wins.
- She listens to classical music to help her sleep, since she thinks it's boring.
