Biography

"There's a view I want to see, you know. I'm definitely gonna make it there, on my own two legs!"

A top student with a most pure and innocent heart. She's cheerful, upfront, and affable; not afraid to be affectionate toward anyone, she's empathetic to the point of caring about others' business like it's her own. One time, while spectating a race, she witnessed a 'scenery' like no other. To reach that impeccable view, and to fulfill a precious "promise", she runs on in the Twinkle Series.

Likes Making bento boxes, Kyudo
Dislikes Traffic jams, suspense movies
Ears The accuracy with which she can distinguish the voices of her fans is quite remarkable.
Tail It leans slightly toward the person walking beside her
Family There was a time when she imitated everything her mother did.
Secrets She has been researching homemade salad dressing.
She's a tiny bit bad with eating dates.

Appearance

Buena Vista has fluffy light brown hair that flows just past her shoulders, and both her hair and tail fade into a lighter brown at the tips. She has a small white tuft of hair on her bangs. She wears a brown and yellow checker headband, with yellow ribbons on the end that braid the sides of her hair. On her ears, she wears yellow ear covers, with her left ear cover decorated in the same checkerboard pattern, and a red "X" in the center. She has cheery light pink eyes.

Her racing uniform has a two-piece dress. Her top is a white blouse with a frilled collar, and a black tie with a red "X" in the center. The bottom half is a brown skirt with red buttons along her waist, and three prominent pleats. The center pleat is red, while the two others are white, with criss-crossed red ribbon lacing to her waist. The end of the skirt has yellow frills. Atop of her dress, she wears a dark brown cropped jacket with medium-length puffy sleeves. The collar has a yellow and dark yellow checkerboard pattern, and she wears a clover-shaped medal on the left side. Attached to the jacket are two yellow straps. Her dark brown puffy sleeves have frills at the end, and she wears a white glove on her right hand, with a black on her left. Both have gold trim. She wears two different brown socks, her left leg's being knee-high with a thigh belt at the top, and her right leg having a thigh-high sock with white frills at the top, held up by a garter strap. She wears heels with "X" belting on the front, and straps going up her shin. The right heel is red, while the left is white.

Relationships

  • Gentildonna - Roommate. Buena looks up to and admires Gentil's strength, while Gentil respects Buena as her senior in the Tiara series. The two often train together.
    • Buena Vista and Gentildonna have the same owner, Sunday Racing. Gentil is officially the first and only one to win the Japan Cup in two consecutive years. That being said, Buena has unofficially achieved this feat in the two years prior to Gentil's Japan Cup races, but was disqualified in the 2010 Japan Cup with the runner-up Rose Kingdom being promoted to 1st.
  • Dream Journey - Friend and rival. Dream Journey has described Buena Vista as "dazzling" and shows admiration for her. The 19th Japan Cup is when Dream Journey found her admiration for Stay Gold, and Buena found her admiration for Special Week, so the two feel as if they understand one another.
    • The two raced together multiple times, with the 2009 Arima Kinen being Dream Journey's last G1 win in his career, followed by Buena Vista in second in that race.
  • Special Week - Friend. Buena Vista admires and looks up to Special Week.
  • Cesario - Friend.
    • IRL, Buena Vista and Cesario are both sired by Special Week.
  • Red Desire - Friend and rival. Though not fully understanding Red Desire's oddities, Buena Vista gets along with her quite well. Red Desire views her as the "absolute heroine" of the world, and wishes to surpass her in races.
    • They are part of the same 2009 generation, with Red Desire being Buena Vista's primary rival during her Triple Tiara journey. Red Desire lost to Buena Vista in the Oka Sho and Japanese Oaks by second place, but managed to win first in the final leg of the Triple Tiara series, Shuka Sho while Buena Vista got demoted to third.
  • Tosen Jordan - Friend and rival.
    • They are part of the same 2009 generation, and ran against each other multiple times, with one of their most notable showdowns being the 2011 Autumn Tenno Sho.
  • Nakayama Festa - Friend and rival. Nakayama always tries to cheer Buena up when she tears up, though sometimes her attempts don't land well. The former deeply respects Buena’s talent and skills, and along with that, whenever she finds Buena lost or walking in the streets at night, she always makes sure Buena gets to her destination safely. Despite Nakayama being a ‘lone wolf', Buena’s optimism always somehow makes Nakayama a bit soft around her, and Buena always sees the good inside Nakayama.
    • They are part of the same 2009 generation. They raced each other twice. In particular, Nakayama Festa beat her and other top class racehorses in 2010's Takarazuka Kinen, netting him his first and only G1 win in quite a flashy way as he was considered the underdog as the 8th favorite.
  • Transcend - Friend.
    • They are part of the same 2009 generation. Despite mainly running on dirt, Transcend raced together with Buena Vista in the Dubai World Cup 2011, where Transcend took second place to another Japanese horse, Victoire Pisa, making it a historic Japanese 1-2 Finish, Buena Vista finished 8th in the race due to her poor aptitude in dirt races.
  • Wonder Acute - Friend.
    • They are part of the same 2009 generation, though they never ran in a race together as Wonder Acute primarily ran in dirt races.
  • Daiwa Scarlet, Believe, Win Variation - Teammates under Kitahara's Team in Cinderella Gray.
    • They had all been ridden by the jockey Katsumi Ando, who Kitahara is based on, at some point in their careers. He rode Buena Vista from her debut up until the 2009 Queen Elizabeth II Cup, winning the first two legs of the Triple Tiara with her and never missing the board otherwise.
  • Lucky Lilac - Friend. Buena Vista gives her racing advice, and they both train together.
    • Besides being fellow winners of the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies and mares under Sunday Racing, according to certain news articles, it is reported that Lucky Lilac had been following Buena Vista around during grazing, which the staff called "a bond between G1 winners".
  • Victoire Pisa - Friend. Both of them connect with each other due to their unbounding kindness for others.
    • They raced together multiple times during their careers, two times at the Japan Cup, two times at the Arima Kinen, and once at the Dubai World Cup. Victoire Pisa triumphed against Buena Vista in the 2010 Arima Kinen and snagged Japan's first ever victory in the 2011 Dubai World Cup, while Buena Vista bested Victoire Pisa in the 2011 Japan Cup.
  • Eishin Flash - Friend. Eishin Flash teaches Buena Vista the German language so the latter can write to her German grandma in the language.
    • They raced together multiple times during their careers, twice at the Japan Cup, twice at the Arima Kinen, and once at the Takarazuka Kinen.
  • Orfevre - Friend and rival. Orfevre acknowledges Buena Vista as the "queen" of her era, whilst Buena Vista slightly envies Orfevre's relationship with her sister, Dream Journey due to her upbringing as an only child.
    • They raced together in the 2011 Arima Kinen, with Orfevre getting 1st while Buena Vista got 7th. They were the 1st and 2nd favorites respectively.
  • Fusaichi Pandora - Friend and classmate. They sometimes hang out together.
  • Kawakami Princess - Friend.
    • The two raced together once, in the 2009 Queen Elizabeth II Cup.
  • Katsuragi Ace - Friend. Katsuragi Ace taught Buena Vista and Special Week farming.
    • Both Katsuragi Ace and Buena Vista are fellow Japan Cup winners.

Trivia

Buena Vista's speculated original design.
  • She was announced during the PakaLive TV stream Vol.42 in June 24, 2024.
    • Like Orfevre, it is believed that she was one of the first horse girls to be announced back in 2016, where the project first started. During this time gap, fans assumed a design to have been made for Buena Vista.
    • Inori Minase, her supposed voice actor for that original design, was never recasted as another Umamusume as of now.
  • Buena Vista is currently the only Umamusume explicitly stated to be the trainer's childhood friend, which was mentioned in the introduction of her training session and a vital part of her character story.
    • This is theorized to be a reference to how her IRL counterpart has a strong attachment to humans, especially a stablehand named Yamaguchi, as she would start neighing if he was absent for a long period of time.
  • In Buena Vista's random event where she gets a headache, the Alps is mentioned as part of a quiz show.[1]
    • This is a reference to her IRL dam, Biwa Heidi, who is named after the character "Heidi" from the show "Heidi, Girl of the Alps".
  • Buena Vista being bad with dates could be a reference to how her IRL counterpart lost both of her races in Dubai, placing 2nd in the Dubai Sheema Classic and 8th in the Dubai World Cup. Dates are the national fruit of the United Arab Emirates, which explains the connection.
  • Buena Vista's dislike of traffic jams is a possible reference to when her IRL counterpart got agitated before the Oka Sho when her assigned stall faced a road with many horse transport vehicles.[2]
  • Buena Vista is known to shed tears easily, including when she wins a G1 race, referencing her IRL counterpart where the horse shed tears during her retirement ceremony.
  • In Win Variation's career, Buena Vista was mentioned having been chosen as "Umamusume of the Year".
    • This is a reference to when her IRL counterpart received the honor of being the Japanese Horse of the Year in 2010.
  • In Lucky Lilac's career, Buena Vista was mentioned to have earned the title "Junior Queen Umamusume".
    • This is a reference to when her IRL counterpart received the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Filly.
  • In her career story, her debut match is noted to be a legendary race due to how strong NPC Umamusume like Unicarize, Sansha Sangyo, At the Crest, and Shindo Runrun were running in the race.[3] They also hang around Buena Vista outside of racing.[4]
    • This is a reference to Buena Vista's debut in real life, where numerous horses including Buena Vista went on to win graded races. Unicarize is based on Unrivaled, who won the debut race and went on to win the Spring Stakes (G2) and the Satsuki Sho in 2009. Sansha Sangyo is based on Three Rolls, who placed 4th in the debut race and won the Kikuka Sho in 2009. At the Crest is based on Reach the Crown , who placed 2nd in the debut race and won the Kisaragi Sho (G3) in 2009 and the Miler's Cup (G2) in 2010. Shindo Runrun is based on A Shin Beatlon, who placed 5th in the debut race and won the listed Summer Champion in 2014.
  • In her career story, if the player has Buena Vista enter the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in her classic year, an NPC Umamusume named Lady Pétillant shows up, where she mentions that she's classmates with Vodka and Daiwa Scarlet.[5]
    • This Umamusume is a reference to Queen Spumante, who defeated Buena Vista in the 2009 Queen Elizabeth II Cup as the long-shot 11th favorite. She is in the same generation as Vodka and Daiwa Scarlet, hence why she states that they are her classmates in Umamusume.
