Biography

“Bring it on! I'll show ya my strength!”

Espoir City is a rebellious gal who's always itching for a challenge. She is particularly defiant towards anyone in a position of leadership and runs races with great gusto in order to show who's really number one.

She's often troubled by the fact that she tends to show a lot of her weaknesses when she's putting up her strong front.

Appearance

Espoir is a gyaru with a "moe fang" on the left side of her mouth. Her sharp eyes are sky blue that fade into pink, and then into white, with a white pupil in the center of her iris. She has red and blue eyeshadow on the corners of both of her eyes, and slightly thick blonde eyebrows. Both her hair and tail are a soft amber that fades into blonde, and her hair is styled with blunt bangs and side-bangs that frame her face. She has a white blaze on the left-middle side of her bangs, and a blonde cowlick that swoops downwards. She has a short side ponytail on the left side of her head tied by a black scrunchie, and her remaining hair falls below her neck. Her ears are short and come to a point at the end. The left side of her ear has two gold earrings near the base, and her right ear has multiple black piercings, with a clip in the shape of two black triangles at the base. She wears two black hair clips on the left side of her head, one in the shape of two jagged lines, and the other in the shape of a square spiral.

Her race outfit has a black and red jacket, with three white zippers on the sleeves. Underneath is a black tank top that stops at her waist, with a blue and white sports bra-esque top layered over top. Her skirt is de-saturated navy blue, with two frilled layers. It is held up with a black belt which has a gold emblem on the buckle. The belt is decorated with a black and gray cloth draped on the right side, and a white, fluffy, tail-shaped mascot with button eyes and a red bow. She wears a black loose sock on her left leg, held up with a white belt, and a purple and black striped knee-high sock on her right leg. Her shoes are black sneakers with mauve laces, and gold horseshoes.

Relationships

• Copano Rickey - Friend and roommate. Rickey often embarrasses Espoir City by being incredibly energetic and clingy around her, but deep down Espoir City is happy with Rickey's kindness.
• Smart Falcon - Friend. Falco thinks Espoir City can make for a good Umadol, which Espoir City objects. Falco's stare also intimidates Espoir City.
  • IRL, Espoir City, Copano Rickey and Smart Falcon were all sired by Gold Allure.
• Furioso - Friend and rival. The two are close friends however, often eating lunch together in the cafeteria.
• Transcend - Friend. Transcend and her often go to watch races together, and share a mutual friend in Furioso.
• Hokko Tarumae - Friend. Tarumae tends to give haskap berries to Espoir City when they race together, which embarrasses Espoir City even though she appreciates it.

• She finds black to be a strong color.
• She has a little brother.
• In her career story, it's mentioned that Espoir City's mother is in the hospital, and Espoir City runs for her sake.
  • This is a reference to how Espoir City's dam, Eminent City, was almost slaughtered by the order of Yushun Horse, Eminent City and Espoir City's owner. However, the breeder, Ichikuse Bokujo, hid Eminent City in a riding club for years until Espoir City proved himself as a G1-winning racehorse.
• She likes eating spicy ramen.
• After running in the Teio Sho, Espoir City's trainer gets into a devastating car accident, and suffers multiple broken bones.
  • This is a reference to what happened to Espoir City's main jockey, Tetsuzo Sato. In 2012, he suffered from numerous fractures during a race at Kyoto Racecourse, and he was unable to recover, which caused him to retire in 2014.
