Sakura Chiyono O is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. She is also featured in the Cinderella Gray manga and anime.
Biography
"Diligence is key—just like when in spring, cherry blossoms bloom... Ooh, that's a good one!"
Follow your dreams! This Umamusume is honest and hardworking.
A pure-hearted, honest Umamusume. She admires Maruzensky, and aims to be her equal in every way. She makes a habit out of filling her "Chiyonotes" with proverbs relevant to her daily experiences—though few but her are able to parse them.

Appearance
Chiyono has short, dark pink hair, styled in neat but fringed layers. She has two hair protrusions coming out of either side of her head that many compare to dog ears. Her inner-ears are tinted purple, and she wears white ear covers that only cover the top half of her ears. On her right ear is a ribbon tied with green rope, decorated with a large pink sakura flower, and a smaller, dark pink, sakura flower. She has light blue eyes.
Her race outfit resembles a yukata[1], however it is sleeveless. The kimono's collar is black with white dashed lines at the trim, tied in the center with a white bow and a dark pink flower in the center. The kimono's sash is dark magenta, the same color as her hair, tied with a black bow, and a small green ribbon in the center. She wears a white pleated skirt with two distinct pink lines at the base, and black ruffles, cut in the pattern of a cherry blossom sleeves. The skirt has cutouts in either hip, decorated with white flowing ribbons. The sleeves of her kimono are detached, and are pink with a white floral pattern, and a black trim. Underneath she wears black full-length fingerless gloves. On her legs, she wears a pair of white tights, with intricate cutouts resembling falling sakura petals. Her running shoes are black sandals with pink toe-posts, and a pink cherry blossom flower in the center.

- In real life, all four of them are owned by Sakura Commerce, hence the crown name "Sakura."

- Mr. C.B. - Friend and upperclassman. Mr. C.B. looks out for Chiyono as she admires Maruzensky. She also warns Chiyono that Maruzensky's life isn't as ideal as she thinks, and that she should truly think over how much she idolizes her.
- Mejiro Ardan - Friend, classmate, rival and roommate. Chiyono looks out for Ardan due to her health, and Ardan appreciates her kindness. Ardan also cares for Chiyono, and shows empathy when Chiyono gets injured after the Japanese Derby.

- Curren Chan - Friend. They hang out together on occasion, and they bond other their appreciation for Maruzensky.

Trivia
- Her first appearance was in a chapter of Cinderella Gray on October 21, 2020, but made her appearance on the website on February 9, 2021.
- Among Umamusume with the Sakura name, like Sakura Bakushin O, Sakura Chitose O and Sakura Laurel, Sakura Chiyono O is the only one who does not share their distinct sakura-patterned pink eyes. Instead, she has blue eyes with a faint circle pattern that resemble Maruzensky's, with a more sky-blue tint. This is because of the fact that Sakura Chiyono O was sired by Maruzensky.
- Her love for sumo wrestling is a nod to her name, in which the real horse was named after Japanese sumo wrestler Mitsugo Chiyonofuji.
- In her career story, Sakura Chiyono O makes note that someone who set a record time in a 1,600-meter race got the Junior Umamusume title instead of her.[2] This Umamusume is a reference to the real horse Soccer Boy, who is best known for his victory in the 1988 Mile Championship.
- She is bad at playing card games.[3]
- She has an older brother and a younger sister.
