Dream Journey is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"For a better trip, thorough preparation is all but mandatory. Let us proceed with the utmost caution and care."
A suave model student, and an older sister to Orfevre. Heavily influenced by a certain "big sis" she met in her childhood, she runs in races with the purpose of seeing the "journey's end" she talked about. She seems to be remarkably considerate, treating everyone with courtesy while wearing a gentle smile on her face, but perhaps...?[1]

Appearance
Dream Journey has long and messy warm-gray hair, with a white underdye. Her fringed bangs almost cover her eyes, and she has several white and yellow streaks scattered throughout her hair. In the center of her bangs is one very large white strand of hair, and on the strand next to it, a diamond-shaped marking, and on top of her head, a large warm-gray ahoge. Her ears are large and fluffy, with yellow on the inside. On her right ear, she wears a metal ring with a diamond charm protruding upwards, attached is a white tassel that fades into a yellow gradient. Her narrow eyes are very unique, with her light purple irises fading into baby blue, and a dark blue pupil in the center. She wears a pair of oval-shaped glasses, with a thin, silver wire under-rim.
Her racing outfit is befitting of someone as cool and composed as her. The main piece of this ensemble is a piece of attire that is equal parts dress and jacket. It is colored a warm gray, similar to her hair. The jacket's collar is yellow on the right side, and black on the left. The dress is tied around her waist with a black leather belt, with several silver chains coming off of it. Underneath the jacket, she wears a dark red button-up shirt, with a line of several silver rings held together by leather straps going down the center of her chest. Her short and puffy sleeves are decorated with vertical yellow stripes. She wears black leather compression sleeves on both arms. On her left hand, several silver rings, and on her right, an elegant lacy glove. The dress' skirt reaches down to her ankles, with two slits on either side that reach above her thighs. The dress has a prominent red X design on the front, and is laced up with red ribbon at the front, and on the left side of the dress. She wears black heeled thigh-high boots with golden trim on the bottom.
Relationships
- Orfevre - Younger sister and roommate. Family is the most important thing to her, and she does everything to make sure her family is happy and healthy. She is in charge of planning all of the travel-related endeavors when Orfevre races overseas, befitting her role in the Expedition Support Committee. The sisters share a room in the Ritto Dorm's high-school division, with Dream Journey doting intensely on her younger sister—preparing chamomile tea for her before bed, looking after her hair and clothes, and quietly watching over her sleeping face in the morning. Dream Journey affectionately calls her "Or," while Orfevre addresses her as "Ane-ue"(姉上).
- In real life, both were full brothers, sharing both sire Stay Gold and dam Oriental Art (Mejiro McQueen's daughter). This made them among the most genetically close siblings in the franchise's real-life basis. Trainer Yasutoshi Ikee trained both Dream Journey and Orfevre, reflected in the sisters' close bond. Jockey Kenichi Ikezoe rode both siblings as their main jockey, earning their trust through patience with their violent temperaments.
- Gold Ship - Friend. The two have developed a friendly and easygoing relationship, and Dream Journey is grateful for Gold Ship being her older sister's (Stay Gold's) confidant. Despite Gold Ship's eccentric and unpredictable personality, Dream Journey appreciates their casual bond. Gold Ship once referred to Stay Gold as "Konjiki Oyaji" (Golden Pops) and appears to deeply respect her, a sentiment Dream Journey shares.
- In real life, the two horses never raced against each other due to Dream Journey retiring in early 2011 and Gold Ship debuting in July 2011. Their careers bookended different eras of Stay Gold's legacy. Dream Journey proving the bloodline's domestic excellence, and Gold Ship confirming its continued dominance.
- Nakayama Festa - Friend. Similar to Gold Ship, the two have developed a casual friendship. Apparently the Ochazuke in Nakayama's hometown is a favorite between Journey and Orfevre. Despite contrasting personalities, (Dream Journey as a "suave model student" treating everyone with courtesy and formality, Nakayama as an "apathetic, lazy" outlaw gambler who "can only live on the edge") both understand racing for something beyond winning (Journey for "Anego's" journey, Nakayama for the thrill). Dream Journey approves of Nakayama's friendship with Orfevre, seeing her as a "good influence on her younger sister", despite her "wild" nature.
- Dream Journey (2004–present) was out of Oriental Art (Mejiro McQueen), while Nakayama Festa (2006–present) was out of Dear Wink. Nakayama Festa notably defeated Dream Journey in the 2010 Takarazuka Kinen. Here, Nakayama Festa upset overwhelming favorite Buena Vista and third-place Dream Journey, winning his first and only G1 race.
- Fenomeno - Friend. As Journey is the most polite out of the Umamusume in the Expeditionary Support Committee room, Meno rarely has any problems with Journey and they usually don't have qualms with each other. However, when it comes to prying too much, Journey easily manipulates situations so that Meno doesn't look into certain things, like when Meno questioned what exactly Journey was doing in suspicious areas around the school. Regardless, Journey acts cordial towards her, since Orfevre likes having her around so that she can tease her with Gold Ship and Nakayama Festa.
- Stay Gold - Friend and mentor figure. Dream Journey refers to Stay Gold as "Anego". This term is commonly used in yakuza circles to address a boss's wife or female relative, reflecting her deep reverence for her. The "big sis" mentioned in Dream Journey's profile who influenced her in childhood is Stay Gold, and Dream Journey races with the purpose of seeing the "journey's end" that Stay Gold spoke of. When asked about her inspiration, Dream Journey recalls: "At the end of the journey, I saw a streak of gold. A long, endless light stretching far beyond... I'll chase after it and go on another journey." Stay Gold appears to enjoy Dream Journey's tea, and though Journey says "I can never meet her when I want to," their bond remains the foundation of her racing philosophy. Before her arrival in Tracen Academy, Stay Gold asked her old ally Mejiro McQueen to watch over Dream Journey. The term "Anego" may also be wordplay, combining "ane" (sister) with Stay Gold's "go." Dream Journey's name itself is an allusion to Stay Gold's Hong Kong racing name, 「黃金旅程」(Golden Journey). Both the trainer and Dream Journey were connected by cheering on Stay Gold's run together.
- The game references the 19th Japan Cup in Dream Journey's character story, which is when Dream Journey found her admiration for Stay Gold. Dream Journey was sired by Stay Gold and out of Oriental Art (by Mejiro McQueen), making him a full brother to Orfevre, the 2011 Triple Crown winner. Dream Journey would also become Stay Gold's first G1 race winner, a monumental achievement that validated Stay Gold's prowess as a sire. Dream Journey retired to become a stud at Shadai Stallion Station in 2012, where Stay Gold was also stationed from 2003-2015. There is a possibility that Dream Journey may have encountered Stay Gold in real life while they were stationed together from 2014-2015, though no evidence confirms they interacted.
- IRL, Dream Journey, Gold Ship, Nakayama Festa, and Orfevre are all sired by Stay Gold.

- Buena Vista - Friend and rival. Dream Journey says that when she looks at Buena Vista, she "dazzles so brightly that it's almost blinding". The 19th Japan Cup is when Dream Journey found her admiration for Stay Gold, and Buena found her admiration for Special Week, so the two feel as if they understand one another. Journey also finds Buena's innocent personality adorable, but Buena feels somewhat envious of Journey and Orfevre's sisterly bond as she is an only child.
- Win Variation - Friend. While Win Variation feels inferior in racing ability compared to Orfevre, Journey sees the talent in her. In fact, she even envies her for the fact that she gets to compete with Orfevre, while she is unable to due to the fact that she had stopped racing at that point.[2]
- Vodka - Friend and classmate. The two have raced against each other several times. Journey has an appreciation for Vodka's straightforward nature. While others are confused by Vodka's desire to run in the Japanese Derby, Journey doesn't look down on her for it, and instead encourages her to run her own path. Vodka finds Journey cool as her upperclassman, and they get along well. Vodka is also one of the few people to not be afraid of Journey, as she doesn't notice anything suspicious about her.
- Daiwa Scarlet - Friend. They play chess together, and Dream Journey gives her chess tips and tricks.
- Kawakami Princess - Friend. Dream Journey always gives her tea, and in return, Kawakami Princess gives her information about Princess Fighter.
- Curren Chan - Friend. Curren Chan visits the Expeditionary Support Committee from time to time, and even comes up with a collaborative stream with Dream Journey to bring more publicity to the club. Curren also helps Journey with choreography during dance lessons.
- Mejiro McQueen - Friend. McQueen watches over Dream Journey from her debut race, having been asked by Stay Gold to support her.
- IRL, Mejiro McQueen is the damsire of Dream Journey.
- Aston Machan - Friend. Both of them shop for perfume together. Dream Journey also finds Machan's creativity intriguing and fascinating.
- Tosen Jordan - Friend. Dream Journey finds her interesting, while Tosen Jordan does her nails for her on occasion, like for her birthday.
- Red Desire - Friend. She helps Red Desire by giving her advice on overseas racing, and they both relate to each other as racers who have a major dream. While Red Desire dreams of taking on overseas races so that she could gain glory as a saint, Dream Journey dreams of reaching Stay Gold by racing.
- Sweep Tosho - Friend and underclassman. Sweep is jealous of Journey's prowess at persuading people, and asks her for help on how to manipulate people better.
- Lucky Lilac - Friend and underclassman. They get along well, and Lucky Lilac also views her as a strong senior. Dream Journey also appreciates Lucky Lilac's admiration of Orfevre.
- IRL, Dream Journey is the paternal uncle of Lucky Lilac.
- Seeking the Pearl - Friend. Pearl's dancing tends to exhaust Journey, and Journey can't handle Pearl's extroverted nature.[3]

Trivia
- She was announced during the PakaLive TV Vol.42 stream on June 24, 2024.

- Stay Gold was indirectly mentioned in her profile before she was introduced as an Umamusume. As her profile mentions "Anego" (big sis) which Dream Journey refers Stay Gold as. In addition to mention of journeys, which Stay Gold is known to love.
- Despite being represented as a suave model student, the real Dream Journey was extremely aggressive, being the most temperamental one of the Golden Family. There are various things that reference the real Dream Journey's temperamental side.
- In her ultimate animations for both her default and Christmas outfit, there are brief moments where her unhinged expression / flashing blue eyes show up.
- She once quickly stopped a group of Umamusume that tried to mess with her and Orfevre despite her small frame. This group of Umamusume is a reference to the real Orfevre's life as a foal, in which he was picked on by other horses due to being small in comparison.[4]
- She's currently the only Umamusume to have her secrets either censored or abruptly stopped mid sentence.
- She ego-searches Orfevre's name online to make sure that her reception is positive. There is implication that she will "deal with" commenters who spoke of Orfevre badly.
- She runs an Umatter account solely focused on posting about her family.[5]
- She dislikes snow.[6]
- She has been to Eastern Europe with her family when she was young.
- She is good at drawing, as she draws quick portraits of her fans at a fan festival.
- Her father is a goldsmith, and her mother is an illustrator. Her racing outfit references aspects of both.[7]
- Her mother being an illustrator is a nod to her IRL dam's name, which is Oriental Art.
- When she was younger, she used to bake carrot cupcakes for Orfevre.[8]
- As she lost the 2007 Japanese Derby to Vodka in real life, the Vodka NPC in the race has significantly stronger stats. It is the only difficult race in her career story.
- She dislikes dry rice.[9]
- She likes to play chess, and will even go against a chess AI to beat it until midnight.[10]
- Orfevre's vassals also give Dream Journey a royal title (ジャーニー殿下, tl. "Your Highness Journey").[11]
- Dream Journey's personality could be attributed to be very similar to a yakuza member.
- She refers Stay Gold as "Anego". In real life, it is a way to address the yakuza boss's wife, it is also a way to refer to the boss if they are a woman.
- Family is the most important thing to her. In real life, yakuza groups operate under a pseudo-family unit, which the members swear loyalty to the oyabun.
- She is remarkably considerate to anyone who comes across her and does not lose her composure even when angered. In real life, yakuza members may be very polite to normal people, though it should not be confused with friendliness.
- She is willing to get her hands dirty to make sure Orfevre stays happy.
- Dream Journey's love for ochazuke in Umamusume is a reference to the real life counterpart, in which he used to eat his hay with water at the same time. This was referred to as "making ochazuke", and his brother Orfevre alongside his sire Stay Gold also did this.[12]
- Dream Journey mentions that she struggles on courses with long straightaways.[13]
- This is a reference to how in real life, Dream Journey never won on Tokyo Racecourse, a racecourse known for having the second longest homestretch in the JRA.
