Vodka is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"I've just gotta be the coolest to ever do it!"
Headstrong and full of life! A roadster with a heart of gold.
Dedicated to being the coolest, this Umamusume tries her best to act like a delinquent. She takes after her motorcycle-loving father, emulating his hobbies and attitudes down to the letter. Her grandstanding nature sees her charge daringly into any challenge, never afraid of what she might face. She has a bit of a cat-and-dog relationship with her roommate, Daiwa Scarlet.[1]

Appearance
Vodka has short dark brown hair, with ends that point outwards. She has a cream-colored patch on her bangs, with her right eye covered by it. Her hair is tied into a rattail that fades into cream. Her eyes are light brown, with a dark brown ring around her pupil. She wears a golden band on her left ear, adorned with a glowing teal jewel, and sextant-shaped[2] accessories on the sides of her head adorned with glowing teal and yellow jewels.
Her race outfit consists of a yellow tank top with two teal stripes going diagonally down the center. She wears a necklace with a stopwatch at the end. On top of this is a leather jacket with a collar that flares outwards. The jacket's sleeves are folded up, and underneath lies white long sleeves that go to her wrist covered in brown belts. She is wearing a black pair of leather shorts held up by a brown belt with a silver buckle in the center. A yellow and teal towel is hanging off of the right side of her belt. She wears thigh-high black leather boots, with yellow and teal stripes at the top. Her boots have two yellow bands across her feet. She has a necklace with a clock at the end, and wears golden rings on her fingers.
Relationships
- Daiwa Scarlet - Roommate, rival, and classmate. The two first met after being paired together as roommates, but their conflicting personalities led to them bickering constantly, which drove them to become rivals on the track.
- Their relationship is inspired by the pair's rivalry in real life, racing against each other in five graded races, with both horses taking home two wins each: the 2007 Tulip Sho and 2008 Tenno Sho (Autumn) for Vodka, the Oka Sho and Shuka Sho for Scarlet in 2007, and one draw in the 2007 Arima Kinen.
- The two are also teammates on the anime-only team, Team Spica. The anime's official website[3] describes the two's relationship as: "Her and her teammate, Daiwa Scarlet, are always fighting because they're polar opposites: a delinquent and an honor student. However, Daiwa is her best friend, comrade in arms, and the one she understands the most."
- Tanino Gimlet - Role model. To Vodka, Gimlet is the embodiment of what it means to be "cool". She idolizes her, often going as far as to mimic Gimlet's mannerisms.
- Aston Machan - Friend and classmate. While they didn't get to race each other much, Vodka admires the fact that Machan chooses her own path, with Machan choosing to run in shorter distances, while Vodka chooses to run in the Japanese Derby instead of the Japanese Oaks. Machan appreciates her friendship, and makes her participate in the films she makes.
- In real life, the two raced against each other twice, with Vodka winning once.
- Kawakami Princess - Upperclassman.
- T.M. Opera O - An Umamusume she thinks is really cool.
- Narita Brian - An Umamusume she thinks is really cool. In the game, Vodka often asks her for advice.
- This connection is most likely because Narita Brian's sire is Brian's Time, who is one of Vodka's grandsires.
- Dream Journey - Friend and rival. She is an Umamusume that she thinks is really cool. The two have raced against each other several times. Journey has an appreciation for Vodka's straightforward nature. While others are confused by Vodka's desire to run in the Japanese Derby, Journey doesn't look down on her for it, and instead encourages her to run her own path. Vodka finds Journey cool as her upperclassman, and they get along well.
- In real life, the two raced against each other four times.
- Red Desire - Friend and rival. Red Desire admires her well, and idolizes her deeply. Vodka finds Red Desire to be cool, and they both get along as fellow "outcasts". Vodka encourages Red Desire to be herself, and to take on the world with her.
- IRL, the two raced each other twice in their careers. They both ventured to Dubai to pursue the Dubai World Cup, only for Vodka to be withdrawn due to a nosebleed after the Al Maktoum Challenge R3. With Vodka leaving Dubai early, staff posted a picture of Vodka in front of Red Desire's stable to ease off her loneliness during that time.

- Her initial character profile was uploaded to the official Twitter account on February 22, 2017.
- Vodka's real life counterpart began getting nosebleeds near the end of her career, which led to her no longer being able to run in the Grand Prix.[6] As a reference to this event, Vodka tends to get nosebleeds when faced with anything related to romance.
- Though, she also tends to get nosebleeds when she gets over-excited before a race, as depicted in her Christmas outfit story.
- During the midpoint of Vodka's career, she has the goal of running, not winning, the Arima Kinen. Due to the fact that Vodka's base aptitude for long is F, it is essentially impossible to have her win without good legacies. While winning the Arima Kinen with Vodka is in fact possible, it is proven to be difficult.
- This is in reference to the real horse running her only Arima Kinen in 2007, but was placed 11th.
- As depicted in her in-game comic, her flask is full of barley tea, not alcohol.
- Vodka's final race with Daiwa Scarlet was during the Tenno Sho (Autumn) in 2008. Vodka beat Daiwa Scarlet by a margin of 2cm, which is why Vodka is 2cm taller than Daiwa Scarlet.
- Vodka's blaze is reminiscent of the blaze on her real-life counterpart. However, in her race outfit, both of her sleeves appear to be white, this is a reference to her real-life counterpart having two white socks, though the real horse's socks are on her back left, and front left, hooves.
- While playing as her during Beyond Dreams scenario, Red Desire shows her admiration to her during the scenario's win animation.
- "Umamusume: Pretty Derby Artworks Vol.1" explains why her character designer made specific choices when designing her in relation to her real-life counterpart, which were as follows:
- Due to her jockey's silks being yellow with a blue diagonal sash, the colors and pattern can be found throughout her entire design.
- Due to her real-life counterpart being a mare who's large feat was defeating stallions in the Japanese Derby, her outfit is designed to be reminiscent of a biker, to emanate the "coolness" of her feat.
- The clock on her necklace reads 3:40, which was the starting time of the 2007 Japanese Derby.
