Manhattan Cafe is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"I'm... right here, with someone you can't see."
Always chasing shadows... Quite the mysterious Umamusume.
A mysterious girl who blends in with the shadows... and speaks with them. She can often be found sticking close to the walls, tracing odd patterns with her fingertips. According to her, however, she's always with her "friend." She enjoys sipping a nice cup of coffee, as gulping it down too quickly hurts her stomach.[1]

Appearance
Cafe's most prominent feature is her long, jet-black, hair. The ends are cut perfectly blunt, with bangs framing her face. She has incredibly long bangs, swept to the side covering her left eye. Atop her head is a large curved white ahoge. On the right side of her jet-black ears, she wears a gold earring with a cylindrical teal charm attached to it. She has pale yellow eyes with a simple, yet eerie-looking, black pupil in the center.
As for her race outfit, she wears a black knee-length overcoat with intricate gold embellishments on either side, and gold pockets. She wears a black long sleeved shirt underneath, with gold stripes on the cuff, and black gloves. Underneath this shirt, she wears a white collared shirt, tied by a yellow tie with black stripes at the end, two stars, teal and black, in the center. There is a simple black choker around her neck. She wears a black pleated skirt with gold decor, and white trim around the edge. There's a black belt with gold chains tied around her waist, over her shirts. On her legs, she wears black stockings, the right shin decorated with golden diamonds. She wears simple white loafers with black heels.

- Jungle Pocket - Classmate, friend, and rival.
- Agnes Tachyon - Classmate, rival, and ...friend? The two spend a lot of time together, with Tachyon constantly harassing Cafe to be her guinea pig, and Cafe frequently having to turn her down, as well as getting Tachyon out of messes. The two have made an abandoned classroom a shared hangout space. Despite their differences, they both care for one another. Cafe gets concerned for her when she tries to drop out of Tracen Academy, while Tachyon attempts to stop her from going to France in Cafe's career story. Cafe is also the only person Tachyon doesn't refer to with the "-kun" suffix, showcasing that she has a unique level of respect for Cafe. Cafe is also the only person who can intimidate Tachyon.

- Dantsu Flame - Classmate, friend, and rival.
- Yukino Bijin - Friend and roommate. The two frequently spend time together, and it seems that Yukino's bright demeanor tends to put Cafe at ease.
- In real life, Yukino Bijin and Manhattan Cafe had a foal in 2006 named Yukino Bijin 2006.
- Still in Love - Friend. They drink coffee together, and discuss how to brew it to perfection.

- Her initial character profile was uploaded to the official Twitter account on April 6, 2017.
- This tweet was a character name prediction quiz, that encouraged fans to try and guess which horse she's named after. The hint was "A beautiful Umamusume with jet-black hair. Her speed is outstanding, but she can't run well on rainy days. She's also an active actress."
- Manhattan Cafe is no longer an actress, as that aspect of her character was discarded shortly before the game's release. This former setting was given to her due to her in-real-life counterpart playing the role of his sire, Sunday Silence, due to their similar physical appearances in the documentary "Fortunate Encounter, The Dream for Thoroughbreds".
- This tweet was a character name prediction quiz, that encouraged fans to try and guess which horse she's named after. The hint was "A beautiful Umamusume with jet-black hair. Her speed is outstanding, but she can't run well on rainy days. She's also an active actress."
- Cafe is said to be "haunted" by a ghost she considers her friend. All students at Tracen that have said they have seen this ghost say she looks incredibly similar to Manhattan Cafe herself. Many liken this ghost to be Sunday Silence, Cafe's sire in real life, as the two looked very similar.
- This is further supported in an event in Jungle Pocket's career story, where Manhattan Cafe begins to speak gibberish. However, unscrambling this text reveals the names in the pedigree of the real-life Sunday Silence and includes the names: Halo (sire), Hail to Reason (grandsire), Cosmah (dam of sire), Wishing Well (dam), Understanding (sire of dam/damsire), and Mountain Flower (granddam). - The trio consisting of Jungle Pocket, Agnes Tachyon, and Manhattan Cafe is often referred to as "JAM". But with Dantsu Flame, they are also known as the quadruplet often referred to as "JAMD".
- She hates black tea, which contrasts with Agnes Tachyon's hatred for bitter flavors such as coffee. [3]
