Stay Gold is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"Haah, what a great view... Don't you think so, too?"
Full of curiosity, and loves traveling like no other. She likes to make reckless travel plans and wander about whenever she feels like, not to return for a long while more often than not. At the academy, she is the subject of admiration for many an Umamusume who is on the quirkier side, drawn in by her aloof and philosophical character. "Strangely enough, there's something about her that makes it hard not to adore her", or so they say.

Appearance
Stay Gold has deep brown hair that slowly fades into a light ochre at the tips, her tail following the same pattern. She has a white marking with the shape of a diamond with a thin wake from the bottom of her center bangs all the way to near the top of her head. Her ears are covered by black ear cuffs adorned with gold decorations. Her right ear is more decorated than her left one, with two aquamarine beads and a feather connected to the cuff. Her half-lidded eyes have rosewood pupils which progressively turn to a golden color; she has barely visible eyebags.
Her race outfit consists of an untucked white button-up shirt beneath a sandy yellow coat, which is heavily worn out at the bottom and has blue armbands attached below each shoulder. The coat has pockets at waist-length on both sides and black belts with gold buckles strapped around the shoulders, chest, and above the cuffs. She wears black leather gloves, the left one being fingerless, and she has a pair of aviation goggles around her neck. She wears a black body harness going over her chest and waist that has a glass flask and a black hunter's knife attached. She wears torn black pants with a small silver buckle and a patch of gray fabric to the right of her waist, adorned with a golden compass. She wears black, laced knee-high flight boots with golden toe boxes.
Relationships
- Silence Suzuka, Mejiro Bright, and Matikanefukukitaru - Friends and rivals of the same generation. Stay Gold feels a strong fated connection with them, and treasures their relationship.
- Both Matikanefukukitaru and Stay Gold enjoy each others' eccentricities. Stay Gold trusts Fukukitaru regarding the supernatural, and she goes to her for a makeshift exorcism in her SSR Guts card.[3] Fukukitaru respects Stay Gold as a friend and rival, and even gets upset when she "ditches" her to run in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) in Stay Gold's career.[4]
- As Stay Gold has memories of how the real Silence Suzuka was devastatingly injured during the Tenno Sho (Autumn), she looks out for her and her health. She races in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) with a cautious eye, and she visits Suzuka when she gets injured in the hospital.[5]
- Mejiro McQueen - Friend. Stay Gold often comes to visit the Mejiro family.
- Special Week and T.M. Opera O - Rivals of later generations.
- Special Week admires Stay Gold as her upperclassman, and views her as a strong Umamusume.
- Seeking the Pearl - Friend and fellow world traveler.

- Dream Journey - Friend. Refers to Stay Gold as "Anego" (Big Sis, commonly used by Yakuza to refer to the wife/female relative of the boss)[6]. Stay Gold appears to enjoy Dream Journey's tea[7].
- Orfevre - Friend. Orfevre appears to respect Stay Gold’s opinions and has sought her perspective on certain matters[6]. Stay Gold is also the only person asides from Dream Journey that calls her "Oru", showing a closeness between them. Despite Orfevre's frustration that Stay Gold leaves all the time, she is eager to listen when she tells stories about her travels.
- Nakayama Festa - Friend. She refers to Stay Gold as "Stego"[6]. She bets on whether or not Stay Gold will get her souvenirs from her trips, as she always wants some. Like Orfevre, her eyes widen when Stay Gold tells her stories about her travels.
- Fenomeno - Friend.
- Gold Ship - Friend and roommate. Gold Ship once referred to her as Golden Pops "Konjiki Oyaji" (Golden Pops)[7]. Gold Ship also seems to value her opinions.

Trivia
- She was announced during Day 2 of the Spring leg of 6th EVENT The New Frontier on May 25th, 2025[8], following a performance of Everlasting BEATS by Gold Ship, Nakayama Festa, Fenomeno, Orfevre, and Dream Journey, who are the children of her real-life counterpart. This has been unofficially referred to as a "summoning rite" by fans[9].
- Following with the real-life racehorse fandom terminology, Stay Gold and the Umamusume who are the descendants of her real-life counterpart are often referred to as the ステゴ一族 (Stego Ichizoku, tl: Stego Clan) as a group by fans. This nickname has been unofficially adopted by the voice actors as of September 12th, 2025 on SokoPaka Live TV Vol.48[10], and has been used in the thumbnail of said video[11].
- They are also referred to as the 黄金一族 (Ōgon Ichizoku, tl: Golden Clan) by Gentildonna.[12]
- In season 1 of the anime, a stand-in named Kin'iro Ryotei was used to represent her. Despite being a background character with no speaking lines, she continued to be used as a stand-in in fan art until Stay Gold got officially announced.
- Kin'iro Ryotei is the Japanese reading of Stay Gold's HKJC name.
- This reading however correlates to 金色旅程, which is slightly different from the HKJC name 黃金旅程. If it were to be read literally, it would be Ougon Ryotei instead.
- Kin'iro Ryotei is the Japanese reading of Stay Gold's HKJC name.
- Unlike the majority of Umamusume who take many of the quirks and qualities of the horses they are based on, the Umamusume Stay Gold is drastically different from the real life stallion Stay Gold.
- While in the game, Stay Gold is portrayed as an aloof, thoughtful and calm girl, the real life Stay Gold was the exact opposite, as he was extremely chaotic, high strung, and violent, as he was an active danger not only to his connections, but other horses, and this behavior lasted up to his last breath.
- Before being introduced as a Umamusume, Stay Gold was indirectly mentioned in Dream Journey's profile through mentions of journeys and "Anego" (a formal way to say elder sister), which Dream Journey refers to Stay Gold as.
- Stay Gold is a semi-limited character. This meant that while she is permanently added to the gacha pools, she cannot be chosen with paid 3-star trainee vouchers.
- In Stay Gold's playthrough, if she participates in the Arima Kinen in the Senior Year as an extra objective, there will be no mob Umamusume present for the race. Instead, it will have 17 unique Umamusume whose real life counterparts all raced against Stay Gold.
- In Stay Gold's career, in a conversation with Mejiro McQueen, another Umamusume just dubbed "an elegant chestnut Umamusume" will join them. McQueen explains that she has ties with the Mejiro family and is currently looking after her.
- This may be a reference to Oriental Art, dam of both Dream Journey and Orfevre and whose sire was the real life Mejiro McQueen.
- Stay Gold, alongside Neo Universe, are the only Umamusume who are aware of their in-real-life counterparts and the in-real-life world in general.
- Dream Journey tends to spray her with perfume, while Stay Gold thinks it's just bug spray.
- She owns a small hammock that she uses for naps.
- She is able to play the harmonica. She can also lure Umamusume to places when she plays it, as she does this in Lucky Lilac's career story for example.[13]
- She tends to leave her classes out of nowhere, though she knows the subjects of each of them.[14]
- She is good at barbecue.[15]
- Stay Gold's love for ochazuke in Umamusume is a reference to the real life counterpart, in which he used to eat his hay with water at the same time. This was referred to as "making ochazuke", and his children Dream Journey and Orfevre also did this.[16]
- During her classic year, there is an Umamusume that Stay Gold is unable to recognize from her past as a horse. This Umamusume was forced to retire after the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby.[17]
- This Umamusume is a reference to Sunny Brian, who won the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby in 1997, but had to retire due to injury. Because Stay Gold did not race in the classics until the Kikuka Sho, it explains why Stay Gold is unable to recognize Sunny Brian in Umamusume.
- Stay Gold is aware of and knows about Manhattan Cafe’s ‘friend’.
