Biography
"Y'know, I kinda get the feeling I can really do it this time!"
This unpolished gem is loved by all. Today's her day!
Straightforward and positive-thinking, this model student always gives 110 percent! But despite her efforts, her inner ditz often has her fumbling in crucial moments. The ups and downs balance out into results that are—according to her—completely average. She sometimes wishes she could be more like the strong personalities around her, but she's determined to charge through and find success her own way!

Appearance
Tannhauser has shoulder-length, light brown hair that fades into a darker brown at the ends. Her fluffy medium length hair rests mostly over her shoulders, with two strands of hair curling to the back of her head. On the left side of her bangs are two red hair clips. She has a white strand of hair in the middle of her bangs that is combed to the right. Her ears fade to dark brown at the tips, with her right ear decorated in two large beads, one blue and one red. She has cheery and round, amber-yellow eyes that are dark purple at the top, with a dark purple pupil in the center. She wears a blueish-purple hat that almost resembles a newsboy cap, with a white brim and a white diamond -shaped marking in the center, and attached to the side is a pink ribbon, with two large strands flowing down her body. She has cut a hole in the hat to make way for her right ear.
The top part of her racing outfit is a white blouse with ruffles in the center, completed with dark gray buttons. She has a ribbon the same color as her hat attached to the collar. The dress' long sleeves have shoulder cutouts and are adorned with dark blue "X" lacing down the center of her arm. The sleeve puffs out, but is completed with a dark blue cuff with a golden line. On her left wrist, she wears a bracelet with several multicolored wooden charms. On her waist, she wears a de-saturated red corset with brown leather trimming, laced up by dark blue laces. Atop of this is a long brown sleeveless jacket with white straw-like frills decorating the ends. She wears a plain dark blue skirt decorated with light blue flowers and a gold line at the base. The skirt has slits on either side, connected by two "X" laces, revealing the frilled white skirt underneath. Around her waist is a simple, brown, satchel held up by a belt. On both legs she wears red frilled knee-high socks tied with blue ribbons. As for her shoes, they are dark brown boots, tied at the top with blue ribbons, and decorated with tan flaps. The toes of the boots are golden metal.

- In the game, Nice Nature, Twin Turbo, and Ikuno Dictus regularly attend her races to support and cheer her on. The four of them are often seen together as well.
- Sounds of Earth, Royce and Royce - Teammates on the anime-only team Team Canopus starting from Season 3.

- IRL, the two raced against each other a total of five times. Out of the five, Bourbon notoriously dominated all but one of those races, that being the 1992 Kikuka Sho.
- Matikanefukukitaru - Roommate. Both of them are so noisy that their room is called the "Jump Scare Room", which angers Air Shakur.
- Both share the same owner and the same crown name as well having their names modified to fit the 18 letters name limit. They were also stablemates.
- Special Week - Friend. The two are occasionally seen hanging out with one another.
- Mejiro Palmer - Friend. Palmer finds her to be amusing and playfully teases her.
- Daitaku Helios - Friend. While Tannhauser doesn't understand most of her lingo, the two are shown to get along very well.
- Yayoi Akikawa - The Director has a particular eye on Tannhauser and expects highly of her, encouraging Tannhauser to inspire her peers.
- IRL, Matikanetannhauser was sired by Northern Taste, the horse that the Director is speculated to be based on.
- Kitasan Black, Satono Diamond - Friends and underclassmen. The two admire her tenacity in spite of her competition.

- She was announced during PakaLive TV on December 20, 2020, as a teaser for Season 2 of the anime.
- In the game, senior year Japan Cup is one of her objectives. However, the objective will be cancelled due to a nosebleed no matter what and she cannot participate in any races in late November.
- This is a reference to her real life counterpart withdrawing from the 1994 Japan Cup due to a nosebleed, and the only way for her to participate in the senior year Japan Cup is to play a scenario where objectives are scenario objectives instead of character objectives (like Trackblazer). However, the senior year Arima Kinen remains as one of her objectives despite the real life horse withdrawing from the 1994 Arima Kinen due to hives.
- She personally cuts a hole in her hats with a pair of scissors to fit her right ear.
- She has a unique arrangement for her vocals in Meni Shuki♡Rush-sshu!, changing the line "konna ni ookiku narimashita" to insert her name, "konna ni ookiku nari-Machitan." Allegedly, this was an ad-lib requested by her seiyuu Hikaru Tono during recording.
- This adlib is also referenced in Royce and Royce's career, where she says "そだね。 こんなに大きくなりマチタン♪" before the Tenno Sho (Autumn) begins.[1]

- Since the motif's namesake is from the German opera "Tannhäuser", the design is inspired by traditional German clothing.
- The hat, which has become a bit of a trademark for her character, has a white streak that resembles the motif horse's blaze.
- As the motif horse won numerous graded races in cold seasons, she has a cape with a hood to repel the cold.
- Matikanetannhauser bears several references to the German composer Wilhelm Richard Wagner:
- The way she wears her hat is the same as the composer in several portraits.
- Her first secret, in which she's on her third hat is a nod to the three different versions of "Tannhäuser" that were released in 1845, 1861 and 1875.
- Her parents owning a restaurant references the restaurant owned by Kosuda Bokujo, the farm her real-life counterpart stayed at.
- Her dislike for spiders is a reference to a real life rumor that the real horse accidentally ate a spider before the 1994 Arima Kinen, which is why he contracted hives.
