Orfevre is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"Good. Now bow down and worship my supremacy."
Claiming to be the king of the racing world, Orfevre is a Umamusume with tyranny running through her veins. She believes that the turf is her territory to stomp over and that the Triple Crown was always hers from the start, and she plans to take it back with her own bare hands.
At school, her overwhelming ability and boastful charm are the reason why some students crowd around her like her servants...
| Likes | Everything in the world bends to her will |
|---|---|
| Dislikes | Humidity |
| Ears | Her earring belongs to her father. |
| Tail | Her sister's tail care is always flawless. |
| Family | She inherited her outstanding artistic sense from her parents. |
| Secrets | The wind pressure from one of her high-kicks alone can blow away a stone statue. |
| On humid days, her bedhead is magnificent. |
Appearance
Behold her majesty's gracious form! Her radiant orange hair flows like a fiery cascade, reaching gracefully past her waist and softening into a lighter hue as it descends. It parts and turns a light beige at her face, framing her noble features and drawing all attention to her presence. Celestial blue eyes gleam with brilliance, framed by elegant lashes, while her subdued lips captivate many admirers. Adorning her right ear is a masterpiece of craftsmanship—a golden ornament too intricate to even describe. Suspended from this regal piece is a black and red ribbon, fastened with golden buckles. And lastly, on the opposite side, a golden chain weaves through her hair.
When she dons her robe, six golden diamonds levitate above her head—a crown of its own befitting her majesty. The beige coat she wears is nothing short of royal, with golden epaulettes on the right and a luxurious fur trim on the left. The collar, encrusted with dazzling jewels, reflects her grandeur, while the back flows into a cape of red and black and featuring patterns of elegance. At the center of the collar lies ruffles of black adorned with a ribbon that showcases another piece of fine jewelry. Her black sleeves feature pearls, red ruffles, and trims of gold. The coat cascades into a dress, revealing a breathtaking inner lining of shimmering diamond patterns resembling the cosmos, with golden trims outlining every edge.
Her fitted black and red skirt, adorned with golden motifs, continues the theme of royalty. Even her leggings, black with red accents at the top, are trimmed with gold and feature detailed symbols running along the sides. On her left, the leggings transition seamlessly into refined heels, while on the right, they give way to an equally elegant beige heel.
Relationships
- Stay Gold - Orfevre seems to listen to Stay Gold, and seems to value Stay Gold's opinion and asked her for her thoughts on certain matters. Stay Gold is also the only person asides from Dream Journey that calls her "Oru", showing a closeness between them. Despite Orfevre's frustration that Stay Gold leaves all the time, she is eager to listen when she tells stories about her travels.
- Dream Journey - Sister/Roommate. Dream Journey tends to spoil and pamper her, as she tends to Orfevre's tail and wakes her up in the mornings as examples. She also helps her cut difficult food, and arranges nearly everything for her. She also monitors how people talk about Orfevre online, and posts about her on her social media to promote her.[1] However, despite all she does for her, Journey doesn't feel resentful, but instead honored that she gets to support her younger sister and her goals.[2] Orfevre respects and appreciates her as her sister and admires her terrifying strength. Orfevre sees her as reliable to the point where she lets her handle her schedule.
- Gold Ship - Friend and rival. She often entertains Orfevre in her spare time alongside Nakayama Festa.
- Nakayama Festa - Friend. She often entertains Orfevre in her spare time alongside Gold Ship.
- Fenomeno - Friend. Orfevre likes to tease and pull tricks on Fenomeno, much to the latter's dismay. Fenomeno feels frustrated regarding her, because Orfevre is more popular with children compared to her. She does not view Orfevre as a good role model to children, and she wants to defeat her in races.
- IRL, Orfevre, Gold Ship, Nakayama Festa, Fenomeno, and Dream Journey were all sired by Stay Gold.
- Orfevre and Dream Journey are both foaled by Oriental Art.
- Orfevre and Nakayama Festa ran in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in real life, both coming close to winning but not quite clinching it. Gold Ship also ran the L'Arc but ended up in 14th.
- IRL, Orfevre, Gold Ship, Nakayama Festa, Fenomeno, and Dream Journey were all sired by Stay Gold.
- Gentildonna - Rival. Though they raced with each other once, Orfevre and Gentildonna have a tense rivalry, to the point where other Umamusume go silent when they see them in the same area together. They both talk harshly to each other on the racetrack, and Gentildonna tends to make blunt comments about her, which sets Orfevre off. Meanwhile, Orfevre compares her voice to the sound of insects[3], and gets annoyed by her. However, they train together from time to time when at Tracen Academy.
- Win Variation - Friend and rival. Win Variation is envious of Orfevre, and wishes to take her down in races. At the same time, she also admires her strength. Orfevre is annoyed yet intrigued by Win Variation's persistence, and even gets angry when she begins to give up. Orfevre also likes the apples Win Variation gives her, and calls her the nickname "Shion", showing that she's on friendly terms with her.
- Lucky Lilac - Friend and underclassman. Lucky Lilac admires Orfevre, and she even tries to imitate her mannerisms, much to Orfevre's amusement. Lucky Lilac also likes to buy Orfevre plushies, and was inspired to emulate her after watching her races. While Lucky Lilac struggles in her rivalry with Almond Eye, Orfevre encourages her in a blunt manner, and they train together from time to time. Orfevre also finds Lucky Lilac's jokes funny, much to the latter's shock.
- IRL, Lucky Lilac was sired by Orfevre.
- Sweep Tosho - Friend. Sweep Tosho gets easily annoyed by Orfevre's standoffish personality. Orfevre tolerates her interactions and does not object to drinking her potions from time to time, and they occasionally hang out together.
- IRL, Orfevre and Sweep Tosho were both ridden by Kenichi Ikezoe, a jockey known for handling racehorses with rough temperaments such as them. Additionally, Orfevre once mated with Sweep Tosho and had a foal code-named "Sweep Tosho 2015". The foal however was born on the year Tosho Farm was closed down, its whereabouts were unknown after that.
- Tanino Gimlet - Friend. They both connect well over their love for destruction, especially kicking things.
- IRL, both of them won the Japanese Derby. Tanino Gimlet won it in 2002, while Orfevre won it in 2011.
- Durandal - Friend. Durandal greatly respects Orfevre as a king, and Orfevre likes her company as Durandal acts as a knight.

Trivia

- She was properly introduced during the third anniversary PakaLive TV stream on February 22, 2024.
- She was named before her reveal: during the Season 3 episode The Dream Never Ends, Gold Ship calls her and Gentildonna out after her final Twinkle Series race.
- Like Buena Vista, it is believed that she was one of the first horse girls to be announced back in 2016, where the project first started. During this time gap, fans assumed it to be Orfevre, thus people may see the old design occasionally. She also had a completely different personality as to what everyone see today.
- Eriko Matsui, the current voice actress for Fuji Kiseki, is supposed to voice Orfevre originally.
- Orfevre is a semi-limited character. This meant that while she is permanently added to the gacha pools, she cannot be chosen with paid 3-star trainee vouchers.
- During her Classic Year, one of the in-game events includes an earthquake that references the earthquake that happened in Japan on March 11th, 2011 in real life. Because of the scale of the disaster, which may lead the reference to cause discomfort in individuals affected by it, the official Umamusume X account posted a warning about the reference.[4]
- So far, Transcend, Furioso, Orfevre, Win Variation, and Victoire Pisa are the only Umamusume to have the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake referenced in their careers.
- In her Senior Year, Tazuna will accompany the player for one turn, where Orfevre will go to France to race in the L'Arc, while leaving them alone in Japan.
- This is a reference to her real life counterpart having Christophe Soumillon as Orfevre's jockey for both the Prix Foy and L'Arc instead of Kenichi Ikezoe, his main jockey in Japan.
- In her career, if the player makes her run the Hanshin Daishoten (G2) in her senior year, there's an event where she will continue to run even after the race is over, forcing the trainer to chase after her.[5]This is a reference to the Hanshin Daishoten in 2012, where Orfevre suddenly began to slow down and veer away from the pack, before running normally at the last second and placing 2nd to Gustave Cry.[6]
- In her career's senior year, there's a scene before the Arima Kinen where a little boy is watching the race from the hospital, excited to see her win.[7]
- This is a reference to a young fan of the real Orfevre, who was a gravely ill five-year-old boy. Kenichi Ikezoe, Orfevre's jockey, heard that this fan wanted to see him, so he arranged a meeting with Northern Farm so that the boy could see him. Despite Orfevre usually being a rough horse, especially when stroked, he was docile when the boy petted him. Two weeks before the Arima Kinen, however, the fan passed away, and Ikezoe vowed to "win and report the race to heaven" after hearing the news.[8] In the end, Orfevre and Ikezoe ended up winning the Arima Kinen by a huge margin of eight lengths. Ikezoe's celebration gesture for the win was minor, as he slightly kissed his left hand and pointed at the sky, honoring the win to the boy who adored Orfevre.
- This could also be the reason why Orfevre in Umamusume, despite having a rough personality, is strangely kind to children in comparison. For example, she plays a game with children where they must make mud balls for her, and she keeps them after the game is over.[9] She even tolerates children playing with her despite being in a bad mood.[10] She also helped a lost child while going out, which is why she received a letter from the same child. When the trainer is surprised at how nice she is to children, she feels insulted, and explains that a good king would guide the children of the future.[11]

- Despite never racing on dirt, Orfevre in Umamusume has a dirt aptitude of D. This is because the real life Orfevre sired many progeny that was good on dirt, such as Marche Lorraine (2021 Breeders' Cup Distaff), Shonan Nadeshiko (2022 Kashiwa Kinen), and Ushba Tesoro (2022 and 2023 Tokyo Daishoten, 2023 Dubai World Cup).
- Earlier in Dream Journey's character story, there's a group of Umamusume that despise Orfevre and want to pick on her alongside Journey, before Journey quickly stops them. This could be a reference to the real Orfevre's life as a foal, in which he was picked on by other horses due to being small in comparison.[12]
- She tends to not wear jackets properly, as seen in her casual wear and her Starting Future illustration, where her jacket is on her shoulders.
- This is a possible reference to how his handlers described the real Orfevre, in which he likely wouldn't wear jackets properly nor show up to class if he were a human, but would do well in exams. [13]
- In her career story, the player can encounter Dream Journey if Orfevre enters the Takarazuka Kinen in her classic year. In real life, while they never raced each other, Dream Journey's final race was the Takarazuka Kinen in 2011, which was in Orfevre's classic year.
- Orfevre, along with Duramente, are the only characters to have the end closer medium distance skill "Reign" (君臨) in their skill roster. This skill is currently not given out by any SSR support card.
- Orfevre can make animals bow down to her, as she does so to Sweep Tosho's "familiars"; a cat and a crow.[14]
- Red is her favorite color, as it exhilarates her. She even makes the trainer wear a red outfit, because it mysteriously makes her right hand tremble.[15]
- This is a reference to a real life event, where Orfevre kicked Kenichi Ikezoe with his right front leg when he came to visit him.[16]
- She reads books every night, to the point where Dream Journey is the one who usually tells her to sleep so she doesn't read for the entire night.[17]
- She has a tendency to take naps in random areas, like the Expeditionary Support Committee room or the courtyard of Tracen Academy.
- She heavily dislikes cooking, and refuses to do it.[18]
- She enjoys eating sweets, such as gelato and caneles.[19][20] This is likely why Dream Journey makes sure to never run of Dolce in their dorm room.
- She has the ability to snowboard, as seen in her 2024 Arima Kinen illustration.
- Orfevre's love for ochazuke in Umamusume is a reference to the real life counterpart, in which he used to eat his hay with water at the same time. This was referred to as "making ochazuke", and his brother Dream Journey alongside his sire Stay Gold also did this.[21]
- In her career story, not only is the Tenno Sho (Spring) the only race after the debut that she's not required to win, Orfevre also experiences chest pain after the race.[22] This is a reference to real life events, in which Orfevre not only lost and placed 11th in the 2012 Tenno Sho (Spring), he was also going through issues such as diarrhea at the time that hindered his performance.[23]
