Durandal is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Biography
"My holy sword shines with swift brilliance, It cuts down all who would oppose you! I am Durandal, a knight of oath and loyalty!"
A chivalrous Umamusume who values manners above all else. She seeks to have a "keenly cutting spurt" that is as sharp as a blade. Conducting herself as a splendid knight like the ones in fables, she seems to be dreaming of a fateful encounter with a king worthy of her loyalty—a trainer ordained by fate, in other words. She puts in conscious effort to maintain a gallant and elegant demeanor in her daily life.

Appearance
Durandal wears her blonde hair into a high ponytail, held up by an elaborate diamond shaped clip, with gold and red fabric attached to it. Her fluffy bangs frame her face, and the middle section of her bangs are light cream, and grown past her eyes. The tips of her ears, hair, and tail all fade to a light brown, and her inner ears are pink. On her right ear she wears a red ear cover with elaborate gold trimming, and golden frilled fabric underneath. She has bright blue eyes with straight lids, giving her face a stoic and determined look.
Her G1 race outfit has a white bodysuit as its base, the edges being decorated with elaborate ruffles. Atop the body suit, she wears a cropped yellow regal top with long sleeves. The entire coat is adorned with gold trimming, and the center is white, and the high collar is black. The gold buttons down the center are tied to one another with golden thread. She wears golden epaulets on either shoulder. Her long sleeves flare out with frilled trimming at the end, and her right sleeve being deep red. The trim of each sleeve is black, with golden adornments. She wears black knee-high boots with folded edges, and golden trim. The base of her left boot is white, and either boot has golden toes and heels.
Relationships
- Calstone Light O - Friend, roommate, classmate, and rival. Durandal gets exasperated with Light O's strange behavior, especially with how blunt Light O can be. However, she does view her not only as a notable rival, she appreciates her friendship, and even goes along with Light O's strange antics sometimes.
- Fine Motion - Friend, classmate, and rival. As a maiden of royalty, Durandal respects her a lot, and holds her as sovereign. Fine respects Durandal, and plays into her "Knight" belief. Fine also gives Durandal advice on how to be more knightly, as Durandal struggles with being proper.
- In real life, Durandal and Fine Motion competed with each other numerous times in mile races.
- In knightly tales, Durendal was a legendary blade wielded by the paladin Roland to protect his King and Kingdom. France and Ireland also had a historically friendly relationship since the 17th century.

- Believe - Friend, classmate, and rival. Despite Believe's personality being vastly different from Durandal's and Light O's, she gets along with the both of them, and Durandal is good friends with her. Durandal also views her as a notable rival, as she could easily lose to Believe if she's not careful.
- Curren Chan - Friend. On occasion, they do streams together outdoors.
- Dream Journey - Friend. Durandal shows interest in the Expeditionary Support Committee, which Journey appreciates. She also gives Durandal advice on overseas racing.
- Sweep Tosho - Friend. Sweep likes to cast magic on her, especially on her birthday. Durandal greatly respects Sweep as a witch, and even addresses her as Witch-dono out of reverence.
- Orfevre - Friend. Durandal greatly respects Orfevre as a king, and Orfevre likes her company as Durandal acts as a knight.
- In real life, Durandal, Curren Chan, Dream Journey, Orfevre, and Sweep Tosho were jockeyed by Kenichi Ikezoe, and except for Curren Chan, they were all known for being the most difficult horses Ikezoe had to deal with.
- Mayano Top Gun - Friend. With her intellect, Mayano can easily detect that something was wrong with Durandal after her debut, and noticed that she suffered an injury. Durandal is impressed by her intelligence, and considers her to be as wise as a sage.
- K.S.Miracle - Friend. Meeting each other during the autumn festival, they are good friends. Durandal, alongside Light O, show concern for Miracle when it comes to her health, and make attempts to reach out to her.
- No Reason - Friend. Though they have not raced each other due to taking different paths, they are good friends and get along due to their eccentric behaviors. No Reason goes along with Durandal's belief of being a knight.
- Tanino Gimlet - Friend. Though confused by Gimlet's speech, Durandal is good friends with her. Gimlet also asks her to make her mocktails sometimes, and enjoys them.

- She was announced during the PakaLive TV Vol.42 stream on June 24th, 2024.
- In her good ending, Durandal helps her trainer deal with certain Umamusume around Tracen, like Orfevre and Sweep Tosho. This is a reference to Kenichi Ikezoe, who was Durandal's jockey and was known for riding difficult horses.
- Durandal is secretly afraid of the dark.
- She prefers to go to churches rather than shrines, as she finds churches more fitting for a knight.
- She collects knight memorabilia for collections.[1]
- She sometimes mumbles in her sleep.[2]
- She frequently goes to a local Chinese restaurant.[3] This could be a reference to how in real life, Durandal competed in the Hong Kong Mile in 2004.
- Because she sleeps poorly, she sometimes buys body pillows to help with her posture.[4]

- Because of this, she tends to eat in large portions, as her family did this back home.
