Mayano Top Gun is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

She's like your sweet little sister. She can't wait to grow up!
A rambunctious young genius of an Umamusume who seeks affection from everyone she meets. Having a pilot for a father, Mayano Top Gun often mixes aviation lingo into her speech. Her tendency to obsess over whatever new and exciting thing is in front of her betrays how far she is from becoming the mature, sophisticated lady of her dreams. However, she does possess incredible intuition and an almost supernatural sense of the right thing to do in any situation.[1]

Appearance
Mayano Top Gun has long orange hair that reaches past her lower back. Her sidelocks extend past her chest. The sides of her hair are styled in small pigtails that jut out sideways before curling inwards. Her right ear is adorned by a dark brown cloth ribbon tied in a simple knot. She has large, round eyes that are a deep golden shade.
Mayano Top Gun's racing outfit predominantly features a military-green bomber jacket with a dark brown fur collar. The jacket itself is emblazoned with several patches on both sides of the chest, down the length of both arms, and the back. Beneath the jacket, Mayano Top Gun wears a green, white, and yellow crop top that leaves her midriff exposed, and wears a set of military-style dog tags around her neck. She also wears white short shorts with gold accents on the edges, with a dark green strap belt around her waist. Two additional belts run up the inside of her thighs towards the sides of her main belt, giving an appearance similar to a pilot's harness. The sides of her shorts also feature two decorative black-and-yellow striped rings that heavily resemble the ejection handles of an F-14 fighter jet. Her legs are clad with dark brown thigh-high stockings with yellow and white detailing stripes, with the top of both stockings featuring a decorative strap similar to the ones on her shorts. She wears brown boots with yellow and red detailing stripes.

- Tokai Teio - Roommate. Mayano tends to tease Teio about her not knowing anything about love, much to Teio's dismay.
- IRL, both horses were ridden by the jockey Seiki Tabara.

And if Mayano ever finds out Nature lies about any of the advice, Nature takes advantage of Mayano's gullibility and flatters her, making her drop the subject.
- Curren Chan - Friend. They usually go out shopping for trends and fashion, and Mayano comes to Curren for tips on fashion accesories, and Curren even lends Mayano fashion items.
- Hishi Akebono - Friend.
- Maruzensky - Friend. They hang out together, and Maruzensky gives advice on how to be an adult, though her advice is a bit dated.
- Super Creek - Friend.
- Narita Brian - Rival. Mayano views her as twinkly, and wants to beat her. While Brian finds her annoying, deep down she is interested in Mayano's strength. Mayano also likes to bug Brian from time to time in daily life, as she pesters her to admit that her wedding racewear is cute.
- In real life, the two of them were both sired by Brian's Time. They were both Horse of the Year, 1994 and 1995 respectively, and raced against each other three times: 1995 Arima Kinen, 1996 Hanshin Daishoten, and 1996 Tenno Sho Spring.
- Hishi Amazon - Friend. Hishi Amazon wants Mayano to take racing seriously, so she helps her with training.

- Her initial character profile was uploaded to the official Twitter account on June 22, 2017.
- This tweet was a character name prediction quiz, that encouraged fans to try and guess which horse she's named after. The hint was "A genius Umamusume who uses a variety of tactics to win races with her ever-changing running style. She has a carefree personality."
- "Umamusume: Pretty Derby Artworks Vol.1" explains why her character designer made specific choices when designing her in relation to her real-life counterpart, which were as follows:
- Due to her being named after the movie Top Gun, her jacket is similar to main character Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise)'s jacket.
- The tassel on her hip has yellow and green stripes on it, similar to the IRL jockey silks.
- Furthermore, the strap may have been designed to resemble an "ejection handle" on an aircraft.
- To represent her energetic and carefree nature, her outfit was designed to be easy to move around in.
- In 2021, Mayano Top Gun eventually became part of official advertising events for the sequel movie Top Gun: Maverick, with her appearing on posters and her voice actress Mio Hoshitani being invited to the official Japanese premiere of the film, where she met Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer. This is referenced in her Secret Pride in her biography: speaking to a world-class actor.
- She also sang a cover of the song "Danger Zone," which was featured in the original movie and in Maverick, with Gold Ship.
- She also received a personalized thank you note from the singer of "Danger Zone," Kenny Loggins.
- Her jacket's rear center patches originally featured the flags of several countries, but was changed before the game released.
- In Season 2 of the anime, Mayano Top Gun spends most of the season asleep. This is due to the fact that the real Mayano Top Gun was just foaled during Tokai Teio's career.
- When Mayano Top Gun was first announced, Ayaka Iwamura was supposed to be her seiyuu, although this was later changed to the current one, Mio Hoshitani. Ayaka retired from the industry due to health complications at that time, before Mayano Top Gun was properly introduced.
- In her SSR Power card's artwork, the belt on her shorts say the words "Alp Me Please", which is a reference to her IRL dam's name.
- While her real life counterpart had a blaze and white socks on his left front and hind legs, this was not adapted in the Umamusume design.
