Summary
The time has come for the public to vote for the Umamusume that will participate in the Arima Kinen, and Kitasan Black stands a good chance of making the cut..Everyone talks about their plans for the future while celebrating Satono Diamond's debut.
Plot
Satono Diamond is running in her debut, positioned in third as they round the final corner. As Kitasan Black and Satono Crown cheer her on from the crowd, Dia shoots forward into first place, passing the finish line and winning her debut.
Meanwhile, Gold Ship is training out in the rain while listening to the radio. On the radio, the newscaster discusses news on the upcoming Arima Kinen fan vote, and their predictions. They mention Kitasan, before bringing up Golshi, as she was in the previous three. The newscaster mentions the Takarazuka Kinen, but Golshi appears distraught, showing a flashback to a URA signed letter on her desk.
Kitasan, Cheval Grand, and Crown all get together with Dia to celebrate her victory. Kitasan fake interviews Dia, asking what her goal is moving forward. Dia announces her goal to be the classic Triple Crown races, and working towards breaking the Satono jinx.
Kitasan shifts the question to Cheval next, who, having just recovered from an injury, announces her goal to be to win a G1 race. In turn, Cheval asks Kitasan what her goal is. Kitasan is shocked by the question, but soon delares her goal to be the Arima Kinen. Considering Kitasan’s recent win at the Kikuka Sho, the three express confidence in her ability to participate.
Kitasan takes this to her trainer in the Team Spica office, which confirms she will likely be able to run in the Arima Kinen. Her trainer explains that it will be different from other races, due to her also having to run alongside the senior racers. Silence Suzuka, Special Week, Mejiro Mcqueen, and Tokai Teio all congratulate her, wishing her luck.
From outside the office, a sudden loud crash is heard from outside. Their trainer goes to inspect from outside only to see Golshi, Daiwa Scarlet, and Vodka standing next to a tipped over starting gate. He questions Golshi, who simply admits to having trouble getting out of the gate, which has been a running issue lately for her. Golshi brushes off the harsh words of her teammates and leaves to go back to training.
Kitasan is leaving Tracen, when she suddenly hears a violin, seemingly being played by Sounds of Earth. Earth greets Kitasan and introduces herself, declaring their rivalry at the nearing Arima and cornering her. Nice Nature interupts, telling Earth to leave her be, and apologizes to Kitasan for her new teammates behaivour.
Kitasan and Nature go on a swan boat ride together. Kitasan finds out that Earth is Team Canopus’ newest member, who Nature describes as odd, but strong. Nature discusses Kitasan’s entrance into the Arima Kinen, which Kitasan explains has been a special race for her ever since Teio won it. Nature relates to this, having placed third three years in a row before, and Kitasan thanks Nature for her advice.
Golshi proceeds to practice exiting the gate with her trainer, finally working on it enough to satisfy them both. Kitasan, who is also running around the track at the time as a part of her training, beats her record time. Golshi greets her, but Kitasan excitedly runs off to do one last lap before anyone else can get a word in.
As the town prepares for the holiday season and the Arima Kinen, Kitasan helps carry things for the people around town again. The townsfolk show their support for her, telling her they voted for her and giving her a bag of carrots. Kitasan is dismayed to see the news of Golshi’s newest race on the bag, where she came in tenth.
In her room, we see Golshi laying in bed that night, pondering. She gets up to look at the letter on her desk, finally deciding to open it.
Kitasan and Dia head to breakfast together in the morning. When they reach the cafeteria, they see everyone there looking at the TV to see Golshi making an announcement. Golshi declares the Arima Kinen as her last race before she takes on the Dream Trophy League. As the cafeteria breaks out into chatter, Kitasan looks distraught, shocked by the announcement.
Kitasan goes out to find Golshi, who is sitting alone on the hollow tree stump. Golshi confirms what she said as true, explaining how in contrast to her early days, she’s no longer in her prime. Golshi admits to having more trouble focusing and reaching first place during races, and Kitasan begins to cry.
Golshi asks Kitasan if she’s crying for her last run, but instead Kitasan says she’s crying because she’s going to feel bad taking first place instead of her. Golshi, now ticked off, puts Kitasan in a headlock. They continue to taunt eachother, as Mcqueen and Teio watch secretly from a distance, smiling at their friendly rivalry.
Kitasan celebrates Dia’s second win with her in their dorm. Kitasan feels motivated seeing Dia’s win, and Dia wishes Kitasan luck at the Arima Kinen, which takes place the following day. Kitasan ponders what it’s like to run in your last race, and Dia reassures her by telling her not to worry and to focus on the present races ahead of her.
At the Arima Kinen, Kitasan is preparing in anticipation to run alongside Earth and Golshi. As the race kicks off, Kitasan takes the lead with Earth behind her and Golshi at the rear. Kitasan maintains first despite the pressure, and as they near the end Golshi begins to dash forward through the pack..
As Dia and Team Spica cheer her on, Kitasan begins to fight for first with another racer, while Golshi continues to surge forward. Golshi fails to fully gain on her competitors, with Kitasan then being overtaken by two other racers, including Earth, as they cross the finish. Team Canopus cheer for their teammate’s second place win.
Kitasan places third, with Golshi coming in at just eighth. Team Spica and the crowd seem upset by Golshi’s loss, as well as Kitasan, who begins crying on the spot. Golshi flicks Kitasan on the head, and tells her to quit acting like someone died. Golshi then approaches the crowd, who cheer her on. She reannounces her plans to take on the Dream Trophy League to challenge Orfevre and Gentildonna, and the crowd chant her name in approval. Kitasan, along with the rest of Team Spica, watch in pride and awe.
Back at her dorm, Kitasan once again celebrates the race alongside Dia, Crown, and Cheval. They reassure her that third place is a good accomplishment, but Kitasan is still regretful for not winning it.
Golshi interupts the celebration, throwing a Rubik’s Cube at Kitasan. Golshi tells her to keep it, with one side of the cube already being solved to represent Kitasan’s one G1 win, and challenges her to solve the cube by winning five more like her. Kitasan vows to get all six, and even more than that, and Golshi bids her farefell.
