Aston Machan is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

Biography

"I'm Machan. Aston Machan. One day I'll become the world's mascot. Please keep your eyes right on me."

Aiming to be a mascot. An ephemeral eccentric girl.

She carries a Machan doll, and will approach any camera she sees. A particularly strange Umamusume, one of her hobbies is recording voice memos. Her dream is to become a mascot that spans the whole world. Behind her cloud-like fluffy words, it seems there may be a certain desire...?

Appearance

Aston Machan has short, messy brown hair that reaches a little past her chin becoming wavier at the ends. Her fringe is cut unevenly with the middle part swept slightly to the left. A portion of her hair is tied back on the left side of her head with a red scrunchie. Her ears are loosely upright and fades into a dark brown. On her left ear are two heart-shaped checkered earrings; the top one being red and the one below blue. Sitting on the back of her head opposite from her ponytail is an emperor-style crown with a golden trim and a triangular pattern with charcoal and red colors. Her soft, lime-colored eyes are slightly down turned.

Her racing outfit consists of a white dress shirt with red sleeves and black cuffs. On top of that, she wears a tan-colored vest with four black buttons. A black bow rests on her dress shirt collar. Her tan skirt is composed of two layers, with the top being short and gathered and the one below pleated with a red line running around it. On both sides of the upper skirt are red bows that sit below a charcoal colored martingale belt with a golden trim. Above these bows are smaller ones with red and charcoal stripes. Starting from her shoulder, a sash runs down her torso ending with a red bow with a golden trim. It is decorated in occasional golden emblems. A charm is attached to the sash below the bow. She wears black stockings that cover half of her thighs. Her shoes are white loafer heels with a charcoal colored bow on top.

Relationships

• Daiwa Scarlet - Friend and classmate. They both get along well, and Scarlet sees her as a notable rival. Scarlet also shows concern for her at times, like when Machan disappears from time to time. Machan appreciates her friendship, and makes her participate in the films she makes.

• Vodka - Friend and classmate. While they didn't get to race each other much, Vodka admires the fact that Machan chooses her own path, with Machan choosing to run in shorter distances, while Vodka chooses to run in the Japanese Derby instead of the Japanese Oaks. Machan appreciates her friendship, and makes her participate in the films she makes.

• North Flight - Friend and roommate. Flight makes outfits for Machan's dolls, which Machan likes.

• Dream Journey - Friend. Both of them shop for perfume together. Dream Journey also finds Machan's creativity intriguing and fascinating.
• Curren Chan - Friend. Because of their names, the two have formed the "Chanchan Alliance". Curren also showcases a Machan doll in one of her streams as a nod to this alliance.
• Gentildonna - Friend. Gentildonna finds Machan's photobombing in her interviews amusing. She looks forward to seeing Machan achieving her goal of being an immortal mascot, as she sees her unapologetic determination to achieve this as strong.
  • In real life, both of them were trained by Sei Ishizaka.
• Twin Turbo - Friend. They both like to video edit together, and they make videos together with plushies they have. Machan also affectionately calls Turbo "Ta-chan".

• She gives names to stray animals, as seen in her career story and episode 2 of her character story, "日課は、お友だちにお名前をつけること".
• She likes the cookies her mother makes.
• In her career story, her trainer works on a Machan-themed weekly manga after her win in the Fantasy Stakes in junior year.
• She tends to feel sick and lightheaded during the spring season. Throughout her career story, she tries to improve her condition during the springtime.
  • This is a reference to her death in 2008, which was during the spring season.
• Her mother is a doctor.
• When she was little, she used to play at the hospital her mother worked at.
• She's attached to spy-themed media, especially movies.
  • This is a reference to how she is named after Aston Martin, a car brand popularized by the James Bond film franchise.
• Due to her desire to be remembered by others, she tends to "photo-bomb" and make appearances in other peoples' photos. Throughout most of her media appearances, especially in Season 3 of the anime, she is often seen gazing directly into the camera, making her one of the few characters from the series known to break the fourth wall.
• In her SR speed card artwork, the recording time on her phone reads 00:09:30. This is a possible reference to her Sprinters' Stakes victory, which was held on September 30th, 2007.
• She wears a crown because she wants herself to be memorable. The ribbon on her racewear is there because she wants to tie everyone together so that they could remember her.
• Her favorite food is fish and chips, as she ate it with her father when they went to England.
  • This is also a possible nod to the James Bond franchise, as the titular character is British.
• Her father is known to be a great driver.
• She is fond of sea creatures, and sees them as potential mascots.
• She is good at smashing udon.
