Eclipse first, the rest nowhere.
The Japan Umamusume Training Center Academy (日本ウマ娘トレーニングセンター学園, Nihon Umamusume Toreeningu Sentaa Gakuen), most commonly abbreviated as Tracen Academy, is a sports training institution and boarding school for Umamusume located in Tokyo, Japan, and serves as the primary setting for the Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise.
Tracen Academy's curriculum covers middle school through high school. Additionally, students also participate in specialized education in racing with the help of dedicated trainers, allowing them to participate in high-profile professional sports. Under the tutelage of a trainer, most students dedicate themselves to competing in the "Twinkle Series", a three-year long racing career where they compete against other Tracen students, and sometimes abroad in foreign races, to achieve their dreams of public prestige and stardom. It is unclear how long one can be enrolled at Tracen Academy, with Symboli Rudolf having been in school before some characters and remaining a student beyond her three-year racing career.
Overview
With its campus of about 800,000 square meters, the school is attended by around 2,000 students[1]. It is unknown whether it is a private or public school, but there are many cases of Umamusume transferring from regional training centers, having to pass a test and an interview, as well as run in a race,[2] although exceptions can be made. Such was the case with Haru Urara, who failed her exams, but was accepted due to her positive energy during the interview. Another example is Oguri Cap, who was directly scouted by Symboli Rudolf in Cinderella Gray without having to pass any exams. It is worth noting that, in this case, any tuition fees would not be an issue, since her mother mentioned that "[the fees] are nothing compared to what you spend on food".
There are also Umamusume who pursue career paths outside of racing, such as Belno Light, who entered the school by passing the entrance exam for its Sports Science Program.[3]
As for trainers, it seems to be more difficult than it is for Umamusume since they need to pass the "central exams", which are said to be so difficult that "there are years when no-one passes". Like Umamusume, trainers are given complimentary dormitories placed adjacent to the main campus.

Teams
Teams in the franchise corresponds to stables in real life. It is said that if an Umamusume do not join a team, they are unable to debut in the Twinkle Series, but in the game, the team system is not shown.
The team names are taken from star constellations. "Spica" comes from Virgo, "Rigil" from Centauri, "Canopus" from Carina, etc.
Daily Life
At Tracen Academy, there are many on-site facilities that the Umamusume use in order to achieve their goals. These include, but are not limited to, the:
- Training Swimming Pool
- Training Tracks
- Dance Studio
- Gym
- The equipment in the gym is Umamusume-friendly, being able to accommodate the power of Umamusume. Features such as the "Lunatic" and "Catastrophe" difficulty modes for the treadmills and fitness bikes exist.[4]
- Club Rooms
- Trainer Offices
- Outdoor Stages
- Library
- Cafeteria
- Dormitories (Ritto and Miho)
- The majority of students live in dormitories, except for a select few. Each of them has a Dorm Leader (Fuji Kiseki for Ritto and Hishi Amazon for Miho) who supervises the dorm.
- There are two students assigned to each room, usually both of the same age, but junior high and senior high school students can be roommates with each other.
- Dormitories have their own amenities, including living rooms, study halls, and kitchens.
- They are generally off-limits to trainers, but they can enter if needed at the discretion of the Dorm Leaders.
- Fields/Gardens
- The fields on Tracen Academy's property are sometimes used as part of classes. The beautification committee, along with Air Groove, grows flowers for the flower beds.[5]
As of now, training off-site is known to take place at the summer beach camp.
There is also a student council, which seems to have more authority than real-life student councils, since they're directly involved in the management of the school. In the game and the anime, the president is Symboli Rudolf with Air Groove and Narita Brian as vice-presidents.
Graduation requirements are unknown, but it is said that Light Hello and Sonon Elfie are alumni of the school. However, Gold Ship, who transferred to the "Dream Trophy" league in the anime, is still enrolled.
It seems that most of the compulsory subjects required for a combined junior and senior high school are covered in Tracen Academy, in addition to subjects such as Racing History, Racing Strategy, and Sports Nutrition.[6]
Trivia
- Tracen Academy's motto: "Eclipse first, the rest nowhere" originated from the racehorse Eclipse and his owner Dennis O'Kelly, and it signifies complete dominance. O'Kelly famously said this before a race, betting that his horse would win and the other competitors would be so far behind they would be "nowhere" by the finish line.
- The Ritto and Miho dormitories are named after the real life Ritto and Miho JRA training centers.
