Osaichi George was a Japanese racehorse active between 1988 and 1991. His biggest achievement was once defeating Oguri Cap, and being nicknamed "the man who shot the monster.” He also competed against many other famous horses.

Name Origin

Osaichi was a title of the owner, Noide Choichi. George was from the sire's name.

Racing career

3-year-old (1988)

On September 11, he finished 2nd in his debut race at Hanshin racecourse.

On September 25, he tried again and finished 3rd.

On October 2, he won by a very impressive margin of 10 lengths.

After that, he developed hoof problems and rested until the next spring.

4-year-old (1989)

On April 22, he won the Azusa Stakes at Kyoto racecourse.

On May 14, he won the Aoi Stakes (OP) at Kyoto racecourse.

On June 4, he competed in his first graded race, the New Zealand Trophy Four-Year-Old Stakes (GII). He finished 3rd.

5-year-old (1990)

On January 5, he almost competed with Bamboo Memory in the 28th Sponichi Prize Cup (GIII) or Kinbō (West) at Kyoto racecourse, but the other horse withdrew due to a mouth problem. Osaichi George won the race.

He developed a fever during training and had to rest for a week, missing out on some possible races and changing plans.

On April 1, he competed with Super Creek and Yaeno Muteki in the Sankei Osaka Cup (GII) at Hanshin racecourse. He finished 2nd, behind Super Creek and just in front of Yaeno Muteki.

On May 13, he competed with Oguri Cap, Yaeno Muteki and Bamboo Memory in the 40th Yasuda Kinen (GI) at Tokyo racecourse. He finished 3rd, behind Oguri Cap and Yaeno Muteki.

On June 10, he competed with Oguri Cap, Yaeno Muteki, Inari One and Bamboo Memory in the 31st Takarazuka Kinen (GI) at Hanshin racecourse. He won by 3 and a half lengths.

It was the first G1 victory for himself and his jockey, Katsuhide Maruyama, who rode him in nearly all of his races. However, it was not very well received at first:

"The day marked the final day of racing at Hanshin Racecourse before it underwent a complete renovation over the course of several years. Furthermore, it had been announced that this would be Oguri Cap's final race in the Kansai region. As a result, the highest attendance in the history of the Takarazuka Kinen was approximately 86,000 people. When the Takarazuka Kinen came to an end, with Oguri Cap losing and Osaichi George winning, there was a moment of silence in the stadium." (Translated from Japanese Wikipedia)

On October 7, he competed against Bamboo Memory and Running Free in the 41st Mainichi Okan (GII) at Tokyo racecourse. he finished 4th.

On October 28, he competed with Oguri Cap, Yaeno Muteki, Mejiro Ardan, Bamboo Memory and Running Free 102nd Fall Tenno Sho (GI) at Tokyo racecourse. he finished 4th.

On November 25, he competed with Oguri Cap and White Stone in the 10th Japan Cup (GI) at Tokyo racecourse. He finished 14th.

On December 23, he competed with Oguri Cap, White Stone, Mejiro Ryan, Mejiro Ardan, Yaeno Muteki and Running Free in the 35th Arima Kinen (GI) at Nakayama racecourse. He finished 4th.

6-year-old (1991)

On January 20, he competed with Mejiro Ardan in the 38th Nikkei New Year Cup (GII) at Kyoto racecourse. He finished 5th.

On October 6, he competed with Daitaku Helios and Bamboo Memory in the 42nd Mainichi Okan (GII) at Tokyo racecourse. He finished 7th.

On October 28, he competed with Daiichi Ruby, Daitaku Helios, K.S.Miracle and Bamboo Memory in the 8th Mile Champion S (GI) at Kyoto racecourse. He finished 10th.
