Yamanin Zephyr is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. She is one of the protagonists of the stage play Umamusume Pretty Derby: Sprinters' Story alongside Daitaku Helios, K.S.Miracle, and Daiichi Ruby.
Biography
"......I'm Yamanin Zephyr. My goal is the wind... It's faster than anything else. I want to be the wind."
A natural Umamusume similar to a gentle breeze, but her soul is like a gust of wind.
She's an airy Umamusume who loves nature and the wind, but once she's racing, she overwhelms everyone around her with her gale-like speed. She has a deep admiration for an Umamusume she watched as a child, who overwhelmed others in a mile race, and hopes to become the "wind", like her.

Appearance
Yamanin Zephyr has long, rosy brown hair, tied into two low twin tails by large, gray, metal clips. She has white bangs that come to a point, whereas the rest of her hair that frames her face is fluffy and windswept. She wears an orange-red flower-esque decoration around her right ear. Her calm, down-turned eyes are light yellow.
For her racing outfit, she wears a cream colored, sleeveless, bodice with frills at the top, decorated with red four-pointed stars. Around her waist is a red ribbon, with a large blue flower on her hip. The skirt of her dress is large and layered. The first layer is a set of light blue pleats, with the right side having a layer of white pleats underneath. Layered under that is a ring of black fabric, with decorative key-hole shaped cutouts on each petal-shaped pleat. And the final layer of this skirt is a large white base, decorated with a trim of white ruffles. On the back of her dress is a large blue ribbon, outlined with dark brown trimming, and decorated with golden diamonds. Around her neck is a red choker, with a silver four-pointed star charm in the center. She wears long, light blue, detached sleeves with a metal cuff holding them to her upper arms, the sleeves frill out into light blue ruffles. She wears light blue leggings underneath this ensemble, and a pair of black loafers with a white flower on the toe of either foot.
Story
Zephyr is an idiosyncratic and highly aloof Umamusume that lives life at her own pace, doesn't pay much attention to the world around her, and doesn't seem to have any friends. She goes wherever and whenever the wind tells her to, including walking away mid-conversation if she must. Her motivation to run and "become the wind" was sparked when she watched a certain famous Umamusume, the "Emperor of Miles", run an impressive Mile Championship race.
When Zephyr was younger, she had to recover in a secluded place surrounded by nature because she would frequently get injuries. Because Zephyr tries to keep her negative feelings out of her racing as much as possible, she would rather not race at all than race with problems on her mind. This leads to rumors among trainers at Tracen that she's unmotivated to race and therefore a poor trainee candidate.

- Tokai Teio - Friend from the same generation. Both characters' motivation for enrolling in Tracen is so that they can surpass a role model of theirs. Zephyr also looks out for Teio, and empathizes with her when she gets her fractures.
- In real life, Tokai Teio was sired by Symboli Rudolf, while Yamanin Zephyr was sired by Nihon Pillow Winner. Both sires lost the 1985 Tenno Sho (Autumn), which explains the connection.
- Daiichi Ruby - Friend and rival.
- Daitaku Helios - Friend and rival. They both hang out and train together from time to time.
- K.S.Miracle - Friend and rival. Zephyr worries a lot for Miracle's health, and they both train and spend time together.

- The unnamed "emperor of miles" Zephyr aspires to after watching a Mile Championship race corresponds to Nihon Pillow Winner, the sire of the real-life Yamanin Zephyr.
- This connection forms the foundation for Zephyr's relationship with Teio, another character who enrolls in Tracen inspired by an Uma based on the real horse's sire, throughout her career ingame. Nihon Pillow Winner and Symboli Rudolf lost the same '85 Autumn Tenno Sho together.
