Neo Universe is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

Biography

"Neo Universe would like to request a friendly "ENCOUNTER". In other words, I'm in your hands."

A little mysterious? Scratch that. Very mysterious? An out-of-this-world Umamusume.

A diligent Umamusume with a clear mind. The only problem is, she can't communicate normally. She's clever to a fault, sometimes acting in ways and saying things that are hard to understand. Thanks to that, the people around her sometimes call her an "alien" ...?

Appearance

Neo Universe has long and wavy blonde hair that almost appears to be floating, with a light blue underdye. Two strands of hair frame her face, the left strand longer than the right. On either side of her head she has two strands of wavy hair, levitated above the rest. She has bangs parted to her left, and a small blue star-shaped blaze, as well as an S-shaped ahoge on the top of her head. She has yellow ears with bright blue insides, and her blonde tail fades into light blue at the end. On either ear she has white, rounded diamond shaped charms with blue gems in the center. On her right ear is a star shaped charm dangling off of her ear. Her blue, half-lidded eyes often seem spaced out.

Neo Universe wears a large white jacket with blue and yellow accents as her race outfit. The jacket has an upturned V-shaped collar with a blue lining. The right side of her jacket is yellow at the upper torso, and has a circular, silver button with her name printed on it as well three long black straps that dangle off her jacket. The jacket has a pocket to the left near the waistline with a shorter black strap hanging off it. Underneath her jacket, she wears a white bodysuit with a triangle-shaped cutout at the neckline and a black tube top. Her shoes are white ankle boots that have fluffy collars connected by black straps in the center. The soles of her boots are deep blue, with a yellow rim, and a yellow strap on the top.

Relationships

• Still in Love - Roommate and friend. She knows about Still in Love's "alter ego", but doesn't seem to mind it. She is shown to be supportive towards Still in Love, often offering her advice and hearing her out. Sometimes, they stargaze and observe the night sky together.
• Zenno Rob Roy - Close friend. Rob Roy was one of the first people who went out of her way to understand Universe's strange mannerisms, they both share interest in books, and Rob Roy often recommends Uni books about space.
  • IRL, Neo Universe, Still in Love, and Zenno Rob Roy are all horses from the same 2003 generation.
    • While Neo Universe became a Double Crown champion on that year, Still in Love was that year's Triple Tiara champion.
• Sounds of Earth - Underclassman and friend. Earth is one of the few people who can understand Universe without confusion.
• Victoire Pisa - Friend. They often stargaze together. Pisa can also understand Neo Universe.
  • IRL, Victoire Pisa and Sounds of Earth were both sired by Neo Universe.
• Hishi Miracle - Friend.

• She was announced during the 2nd Anniversary PakaLive TV stream on February 22, 2023.
• Her unusual dialogue includes terms in Japanese quotation marks (『』) to emphasize emotional sincerity, English quotation marks ("") for space-related terms, and made-up all-caps words whose meanings are only implied. Her dialogue will sometimes render the words for "sky" and "world" with the kanji for "universe".
  • Her inability to communicate normally seems to be inspired by a comment from jockey Mirco Demuro, who said that "the only thing bad about him is that he can't speak human language".
• Character Design Notes from Umamusume Pretty Derby Artworks Vol.04:
  • Astronaut-like design from the motif horse's name. The right ear gives a transparent feeling reminiscent of an astronaut helmet, and the texture of the outfit is chosen to represent "near-future".
  • From the comment of "the only flaw is not being able to speak human language", the silhouette of the hair and outfit is made to resemble and octopus alien.
  • From the same comment, her hair has an antenna shape.
• Neo Universe, alongside Stay Gold, are the only Umamusume who are aware of their in-real-life counterparts and the in-real-life world in general.
