Trivia

  • Her initial character profile was uploaded on the official Twitter account on March 6, 2017.
  • Despite appearing human, Tazuna is often speculated to be an Umamusume based on the racehorse Tokino Minoru, who was undefeated in all 10 races he participated in and won the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby, but passed away 17 days after the latter following complications with contracting tetanus that led to a fatal case of sepsis. He is often nicknamed the "Phantom Horse" for passing away before he could compete in the Kikuka Sho to complete the Triple Crown. Tokino Minoru was also the only horse in the history Japanese horse racing to end a career with a perfect 10 out of 10 wins.
    • References to Minoru include:
      • Her birthday is listed in-game as May 2nd, which is Minoru's birthday as well.
      • In the events of SSR [Tracen Reception] Tazuna Hayakawa, an ad promotes a movie about the "Phantom Umamusume" whose legend endures long after her permanent departure from racing. Tazuna also mentions having a "special connection" to the Japanese Derby.
        • In a previous event, she is fast enough to catch Taiki Shuttle, who is also considered a fast Umamusume, which references Tokino Minoru's racing records that is mainly composed of sprint and mile races and having most of his time records being new records.
      • The mahjong hand tiles Tanino Gimlet makes in episode 20 of Umayuru features Mihono Bourbon, Tokai Teio and Tazuna. Bourbon, Teio and Minoru were all Double Crown winners in real life, with all three winning the first two races but being unable to complete the crown by winning the Kikuka Sho.
      • Tazuna mentions in one of Mr. C.B.'s events that she has fond memories of the Kyodo Tsushin Hai, a G3 race named after Minoru which is also named in some instances as the Tokino Minoru Kinen.
      • Tazuna's green and black clothing matches the colors Minoru's jockey, Mitsumasa Iwashita, wore.
      • Tazuna's hat has a horseshoe on her right side. An accessory on the Umamusume's right ear indicates that their real-life counterpart was male.
    • Tazuna's hat constantly covers the top of her head, which many fans speculate may possibly be hiding her horse ears.
      • In one of the Umayon comics, her bare head is notably framed in a way to hide the top of it.
      • A picture from the art book for the first season of the anime depicts Tazuna with horse ears, though this is never shown in the actual anime.
      • In Beginning of a New Era, the films rolling while Agnes Tachyon is entering the Zone depicts a running Umamusume, wearing the usual race suits for races below GI, who has almost identical hair to Tazuna's.
        • This is possibly due to the similar nicknames attributed to both their in-real-life counterparts, with Agnes Tachyon as the Phantom Triple Crown and Tokino Minoru as the Phantom Horse.
        • Tokino Minoru participated in his races before the international grading system was introduced in 1984, where all races in Japan were open races.
  • After the new update[1] on February 14, 2026 in the Japanese Server, all NPCs listed were given lobby interactions. If Tazuna has one active, she will be missing at the receptionist table on the "Race" menu and instead be placed on whatever lobby interaction was set to her at that time.
