Jou Kitahara is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, featured in the Cinderella Gray manga. He is Oguri Cap's trainer.
Biography
A trainer from the Kasamatsu Training Academy, who has a dream of winning the Tokai Derby, though there was no excitement for him at Kasamatsu, until he saw Oguri Cap, who he scouted, alongside Berno Light.
Under his advice, Oguri was able to win races by a landslide, and against his uncle's advice, allowed Oguri to race in the Chukyo Cup, and as a result of her winning the race, was scouted by Symboli Rudolf to the central, meaning that Jou wouldn't be able to continue working with Oguri, as he didn't have a central trainer license.
Although his dream of the Tokai Derby was shattered, his new goal is to be a trainer worthy of Oguri, and starts studying for his central trainer license.
Trivia
- Fans say he is not based off a single real life person, but multiple:
- Koichi Oguri: The owner of the real life horse Oguri Cap
- Katsumi Ando: A horse jockey who, like Oguri, transferred from regional to centrals. He failed his first license exam, and after a flood of protests, the JRA established the "Ankatsu Rule", based on track record.
- Masao Sumi: A trainer who managed real life Oguri Cap during his time at Kasamatsu.
