|
Sakura Bakushin O was a Japanese racehorse that was active from 1992 to 1994. He was known as a specialized sprinter and had won the Sprinters Stakes twice in a row, as well as other short-distance grade races, winning 11 out of 12 races.
He had a well-known rivalry with North Flight, with him being named as the "King of Sprint" and North Flight being named as the "Queen of Mile". In addition, both horses have never beaten each other on their best-performing distances. Sakura Bakushin O's record in sprint versus mile distances was a contributing factor in JRA expanding the number of sprint-distance races on the schedule.
His only loss in his 12 runs of sprint races was the 1992 Sprinter Stakes, which was won by Nishino Flower, where Sakura Bakushin O came in 6th in that race.

Trivia
- Despite their remarkable rivalry, Sakura Bakushin O and North Flight were never bred together.
- His grandson, Kitasan Black, went on to become a stayer instead of a sprinter like his grandfather was.
- One of Fuji TV's announcers, Tatsuya Aoshima, is nicknamed "Aoshima Bakushin O" after Sakura Bakushin O due to his ability to commentate fast enough in sprint-related races such as naming every horse on the racetrack before the homestretch, in which most announcers are unable to perform such a feat. When commentating on mile or longer races, Tatsuya Aoshima would stop speaking because he is either tired or has nothing to say, reflecting Sakura Bakushin O's poor aptitude on mile or longer races.
