Obey Your Master is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, featured in the Cinderella Gray manga and anime.

Biography

Obey Your Master (オベイユアマスター, Obei Yua Masutā) is an American Umamusume who emerges as a pivotal antagonist in the Japan Cup Arc, where she proves to be one of Cinderella Gray's most enigmatic and complex characters. She arrives in Japan as one of the representatives of the United States to compete in the Japan Cup. Obey Your Master is distinguished by her dual nature: presenting a carefree, eccentric persona while concealing a calculating, deeply observant competitor underneath. In the series, she rivalled the legendary Tamamo Cross and rising star Oguri Cap as well as other international competitors to achieve international recognition that had eluded her domestically.

Trivia

• Due to her role in the story, she is likely based off of the real-life American racehorse Pay the Butler, who defeated both Oguri Cap and Tamamo Cross at the 1988 Japan Cup.
  • After her debut in the Cinderella Gray manga, a real racehorse has been named after Obey Your Master who is racing since 2023.
