Treve is a French racehorse, famous for being 2013 Horse of the Year and for winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in consecutive years.
Name Origin
Trêve is the French word for "treaty."
Racing career
Two-year-old season (2012)
Treve ran first in her only race of the season - her debut - which was a mile-long race at Longchamp Racecourse.
Three-year-old season (2013)
In her three year old season, Treve raced four times - three times in stakes company. Her first race of the year was at the Prix Perruche Bleu, an ungraded race over 1600 meters at Saint-Cloud. She won by three and a half lengths, in front of the favorite, Bayargal, who was later disqualified. Her next start was at the Grade 1 Prix Diane, in which she won by four lengths. After this race, she was re-purchased by Sheikh Joaan al Thani. Treve's third start of the year was in the Prix Vermeille, where she started poorly but ended up winning by a much smaller margin than her other races in the season. Her last race was at the Prix de L'arc de Triomphe over 2400 meters in which she went against Japanese horses such as Orfevre and Kizuna. Like her last race, she ended up breaking from the gates badly and being stuck at the back of the pack for most of the race, but ultimately ended up breaking away from the pack, leaving Orfevre in second by five lengths.
Four-year-old season (2014)
Treve had a rather unremarkable four year old season comparative to her success in 2013. She ran four times, all at the Grade 1 level. Her first race was at the Prix Ganay, in which she placed second to the eight-year-old gelding Cirrus de Aigles. After this, she participated overseas for the first time in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot in the United Kingdom. She ended up in the middle of the group, and accelerated at the end, but was narrowly outdone by both Fugue and The Magician - making this her first third place. The third running of her season was the Prix Vermielle, which she placed fourth in. Treve rounded out the season with a second win in the Prix de L'arc de Triomphe, going against many experienced horses, such as Gold Ship.
Five-year-old season (2015)
After her stunning win in the Arc for the second time, Treve began her five-year-old season in the Prix Corrida - the first, and only time she would race in a Grade 2 race. She won this race by four lengths in front of fellow Group 1 winner We Can. Stepping back up to the Grade 1 level, her next race was the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, in which she broke from the gate as the favorite, and ended up winning by 1 1/4 lengths. Following that, she secured a second win of the Prix Vermielle which she had failed to do last season. Her last race of the season was the Arc, in which Treve attempted to become one of the first to win it a third time in a row. However, she ended up being defeated after a rocky run in which her jockey failed to restrain her at the beginning, and accelerated only to finish fourth.
Retirement
Treve was retired in 2015 after finishing fourth in her third attempt at the Arc. She was sent to broodmare duty at Haras de Bouquetot in Normandy, France. Thus far, she has produced three foals, with two winners amongst them.
- Qous - a bay colt by Dubawi. One win in 12 askings, raced in both France and Qatar.
- Doha - a bay filly by Sea the Stars. One win in three starts.
- Paris - a bay mare by Shalaa. Unwon in two starts, placed third once.
Honors
Treve was awarded Cartier Horse of the Year in 2013, as well as the title of Champion 3-year-old Filly. Her Timeform rating was set at 134.
