Director Yayoi Akikawa has identified a deficit in Tracen Academy's offerings: Umamusume frequently have their potential to stand on a large stage squandered when their aptitudes do not overlap with the year's most famous races. Therefore, she invents the URA Finale: an all-new event covering every track and distance.
The player works with Director Akikawa, Tazuna Hayakawa, Etsuko Otonashi, and a new friend, trainer Aoi Kiryuin, to prepare for the URA Finale and bring it to life amidst trials and tribulations. The player and Trainer Kiryuin evolve as trainers together over the course of the scenario, as Kiryuin learns to open herself up to her trainee, Happy Meek.
| Director Akikawa feels that racers' potential are being squandered on Tracen Academy's campus. Therefore, she creates a brand-new event: the URA Finale, an event of a scale and scope never seen before, encompassing all distances and courses. The announcement is initially met with uncertainty, owing to the Director's young age and the recent change in the Academy's directorship. However, the URA Finale's mission of creating a competitive environment in which anyone can shine wins the inspiration of campus. The player sets off with the goal of entering and winning the URA Finale.
The player receives a flyer in the mail promoting the grand opening of a new aquarium. While they look for their trainee to invite them, to no avail, they have a chance encounter with Trainer Kiryuin and Happy Meek. Amidst the bustle of spectators remarking on Kiryuin's stellar aptitudes as a trainer, she calls out to the player. Kiryuin admits that she's always looked up to the player, and wants to meet in the future. Happy Meek stares at the aquarium flyer in the player's hand. The player, Kiryuin, and Happy Meek all go to the aquarium together. Kiryuin frets that she's doing Happy Meek a disservice by going to the aquarium with her, due to the fact that her family's Trainer's Handbook recommends that Umamusume are left to their own devices during rest periods. The player expresses that it's important that trainers get to know their trainees. Kiryuin remarks tepidly that she hadn't known that Happy Meek liked aquariums before that day. The player and Kiryuin become friends, chatting about training theory all the way back to the trainer's dorms. Soon afterwards, in Late July of Junior Year, the player meets reporter Etsuko Otonashi, a reporter from Twinkle Monthly. Otonashi asks the player how the URA has changed the player and their trainee's outlook, to which the player responds everything has stayed the same and that their goal is to help their trainee achieve their dreams. Otonashi is absurdly brought to tears, and declares that she will assist the player in gaining fans. The next time the player and Trainer Kiryuin meet, they encounter each other shoe shopping. Happy Meek accompanies Kiryuin, disappointed when she can't bring herself to point out to her trainer which shoes she wants as Kiryuin walks to the register with her selection. The player encourages Meek to talk to Kiryuin. Kiryuin apologizes to Meek, and the two go back to choose shoes together, thanking the player for their support. In Early March of Classic Year, Director Akikawa invites the player and Kiryuin to her office in dire need of assistance. The URA Finale is still not widely known amongst the general public, and the Director wants the two trainers to participate in the URA Finale Commemorative Festival to promote it. On the day of the Commemorative Festival, Kiryuin and the player encounter Otonashi, who misinterprets their excitement about providing an interview as a statement that they will perform in the stead of their trainees in a mini-concert. The two trainers attempt to perform Umapyoi Densetsu on stage, which surprisingly successfully promotes the URA Finale. Happy Meek enters a race in Early November, failing to win and coming in 3rd place. Trainer Kiryuin blames herself, leaving Meek alone, unable to find her. Meek and the player go looking for Kiryuin at the aquarium, where they find her. Kiryuin expresses that she has been reflecting on her own inadequacies, feeling incompetent. The player observes that the only thing she seems to lack is communication with Meek. Kiryuin expresses that she's useless, and that speaking to Meek about her feelings would be burdening her. Meek tells Kiryuin that she isn't useless, and that she wants to learn more about Kiryuin and work as a team. The two leave the aquarium with their partnership strengthened. Next month, in Late December, Director Akikawa is shown to have spent her savings on a large carrot farm. Tazuna attempts to chastise her, but Akikawa wins out with the explanation that the carrot farm is to provide hearty, fresh meals for the URA Finale. Trainer Kiryuin and Happy Meek arrive in the carrot farm to let the director know that they've resolved their doubts and have decided again to win the URA Finale, mentioning that the player had much to do with their newfound resolution. Reporter Otonashi then arrives, with exciting news: an article about the URA Finale posted online has attracted an incredible amount of attention. Excitement grows within the group as the URA Finale approaches. In Early March of Senior Year, a massive storm suddenly hits Tracen Academy. The flooding of the growing turf has destroyed the racetrack, causing a potential cancellation. Director Akikawa rushes off, vowing to find a solution. Meanwhile, Tazuna and the player rack their brains thinking of a way to help. Several months later, in Early September, the player finds Director Akikawa growing new turf in her field with the help of Umamusume, trainers, and fans alike. Despite the storm, the racetrack is repaired in time for the URA Finale at the end of the year. The player and their trainee, along with Trainer Kiryuin and Happy Meek, have all been chosen to take part. Upon winning the qualifiers, Director Akikawa congratulates the player and is satisfied by the excitement of the event, though she also warns the player that the next race will not be so easy. Upon winning the semifinals, Reporter Otonashi interviews the player and states that she is looking forward to seeing the finals. In the final race, the player's trainee races against Happy Meek and ultimately wins, taking the URA Finale crown. Though Kiryuin and Meek are disappointed by their loss, they both sincerely congratulate the player. Meek vows to shine brightly, and Kiryuin declares the player to be her rival, worthy of her wholehearted respect. Reporter Otonashi visits the player to give them the newest copy of the Twinkle Monthly Special Issue, explaining that this special edition was printed with a section dedicated to fan letters for the player and their trainee. To celebrate the success of the URA Finale, Director Akikawa prepares a special meal for the player and presents them her fan, a symbol of her recognition and gratitude. |
