Dance Limerick is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, featured in the Star Blossom manga.

Biography

"For the one who believed in me, I'll... Believe in myself!"

Dance Limerick is a member of Team Regulus, making her debut in Chapter 25 of Star Blossom "The Prestigious Team Regulus." She is one of many racers hoping to race and beat Narita Brian, notably being much more rough in her wording stating that she wants to "crush her arrogance." Limerick herself calls this desire "selfish." Limerick seems to be quite weighed down by expectations, specifically the expectations of being on Team Regulus. This could be because the real life horse, Air Dublin, had notable half-siblings in Dance in the Mood and Dance in the Dark who were both G1 winners, whereas Air Dublin didn't win any G1s. The naming scheme of Dublin's half-siblings and also his dam, Dancing Key, is likely where Dance Limerick gets her name from.

Limerick's first attempt to beat Brian failed due to placing 2nd in the Wakaba Stakes to Final Third, therefore being unable to enter the Satsuki Sho. A month later, she swears by the name of Team Regulus that she will face Brian in the derby and defeat her. Kuroda, her trainer, helps her in winning by utilizing a strategy that works in tandem with her "clumsiness." After winning against Sakura Laurel and Celestial Pole, she's able to race against Narita Brian in the Derby and notes that the next time they all race together, it'll be there. Limerick also speaks on how her victory frustrates her, as to win against Brian she should have won by a larger margin. Nevertheless, Limerick goes into the Derby with high expectations. However, Laurel is unable to race in the Derby due to an injury and Limerick ends up losing and placing second. This is shown to affect Limerick quite deeply as during Summer Camp she's shown focusing more on training than relaxing. The extent to this is unknown, but it could be inferred that the loss was causing her to overwork herself. However, a light nudge from Laurel and Celeste gets her to loosen up. After Summer Camp, Brian and Limerick both face off again at the Kyoto Shimbun Hai, but both lose to Stella Girl with Limerick taking third. They face off again at the Kikuka Sho, where Limerick once again loses to Brian.

Limerick as of now has her sights set on the Tenno Sho Spring.

Relationships

• Narita Brian - Rival. Much like Laurel, the main reason she wants to beat Brian is because of Brian's supposed "arrogance." However, unlike Laurel, her language shows a bit more forcefulness in the matter. She raced against her in both the Derby and Kikuka Sho, but failed to beat her both times.
• Sakura Laurel - Rival and Friend. The two of them are united in the front to beat Brian but they are also quite fond of each other. Although Limerick pushed her away at first, they're shown to be close enough during New Years for Limerick to give Laurel tips on the racers she'll be up against. She says she'll be waiting to race against Laurel again during Tenno Sho Spring.
• Celestial Pole - Rival and Friend. After racing in the Aoba Sho, they also race in the Derby together. Celestial Pole is a lot more aloof than Limerick though and generally more laidback than her as well. Despite how different they are, they get along well. Notably, Celeste is the one who brought up the fact Limerick should be taking it easy during Summer Camp.
• Winning Ticket, Matikanetannhauser, Air Groove, Daiichi Ruby - Teammates on the manga-only team ,Team Regulus. Although she is fond of her teammates, Regulus' reputation leads her to feeling quite pressured.
  • All of the UmaMusume on Team Regulus were trained by Yuji Ito in real life.
  • She shares similar speech mannerisms with Daiichi Ruby in particular, although there doesn't seem to be a clear reason behind this.
• Miyu Kuroda - Trainer. She looks up to Kuroda a lot, noting that he's the reason she believes in herself.

• Limerick has shockingly good stamina, as in the short segment we get of her training before the Aoba Sho she's seen doing 10 laps and being seemingly fine and not tired at all.
• Due to her placements in the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby, fans link her to the real life horse Air Dublin.
  • Another piece of evidence to Dance Limerick's base being Air Dublin is that he was trained by Yuji Ito, a trait shared with the real-life counterparts of the other members of Team Regulus.
