Retirement and Death
After retirement, Haiseiko stood stud at Meiwa Farm in Hokkaido. One of his most notable offspring was Katsurano Haiseko, who had triumphed the 1979 Japanese Derby, the race that his father could not win.
Because of his prominence in causing the first horse racing boom, his popularity never faded even after retirement, fans would constantly flock to Meiwa Farm to visit him, with tour buses regularly arriving.
Several years later after his retirement, Oguri Cap would bring forth the second horse racing boom as a regionals racer transferred to the centrals, just like Haiseiko used to be.
Haiseiko retired from stud duties on 1997 and lived his final years until 4th May, 2000, where he died of a heart failure. After his death, the NAR renamed the Seiun Sho, the last race Haiseiko won in the regionals before transferring to the centrals, into Haiseiko Kinen in honor of him.
