Aston Machan (アストンマーチャン, March 5, 2004 - April 21, 2008) was a Japanese racehorse that was active from 2006-2008. She was known as one of the "big three" in the filly crop of 2006-2007, alongside Vodka and Daiwa Scarlet.

Name Origin

Owner Mayumi Tosa combined the famous British car brand Aston Martin, and his childhood nickname of "Ma-chan", officially registering the filly as "Aston Machan".

Death

On March 3, 2008, Trainer Ishizaka announced that Aston Machan would not run in the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, due to poor health. It was later announced that she had developed X-colitis, a disease of unknown cause and was hospitalized at Ritto Training Center Racehorse Clinic. Aston Machan would not recover from her disease, and passed away on April 21, 2008.

While there is no identified cause for X-colitis, JRA veterinarian Kiminori Yoshinari suggests "It is caused by psychological factors, developing in horses that suffer from stress."
