Issues with some recent edits

Hello! It's always nice seeing new editors passionate about working on the wiki as we are quite shorthanded, but I feel that there have been some problems with your edits that need to be addressed moving forward:

  • Machine translation is not allowed to be on the wiki under any circumstance, so it's better to stop adding machine translated lyrics as all will happen is that someone will have to go back and remove it.
  • Low quality and often redundant trivia keeps being added. For example, there's no need to point out things that are already clear, such as a character having sharp teeth, or inconsequential things like "this character is the 4th shortest".
  • I feel that more familiarity with the trappings of the series is needed. For example, a trivia was added to Bright's page that her silk was turquoise based on the original silks, but this kind of silks factoid is true of every Umamusume by design.

If these things can be addressed, it would be of great help! Cullen (talk) 01:18, 21 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Cullen! Thank you so much for letting me know! I'm really sorry about the issues, and I'll try my best to move around them from now on. I'm still reletively new, and have been trying to seek out advice from more experienced editors, so this was a really great help! I can work on the trivia itself and try to figure out a sort of filter for what is and isn't important. What I will say is that I don't actually use any kind of machinery for translating lyrics, so I checked on some older ones I did to see how similar they were... and it turns out they're nearly the same. Whoops. I can definitely work on my localization skills, and try to keep in mind certain things for grammatical parts (Japanese isn't my first language).
What does confuse me a tiny bit is that when looking over the guidelines, I didn't see the part about machine translation being not allowed, but rather, the use of any kind, shape, or form of AI. That, or I just accidentily skipped over the line that had it, but I see what you're saying and I'll refrain from using what seems to be more 'robot-like' in the future, and completely avoid any translators, and I won't let a little loophole stop me from addressing and fixing the issues.
Again, thanks so much for telling me, and I really appreciate the advice! I'll get to work trying to fix some of my weaker points as soon as possible, and get more familiarized with the general way things are done in here. It's been a great experience working with the editor community, and I'm looking forward to watching the wiki and my editing skills grow alongside it!

Hi there. Please refrain from adding edited machine translated lyrics to songs, like you recently did on Like a Shooting Star. It matches almost exactly with Google Translate when I paste the Japanese lyrics into there.
After Cullen brought it up with you, a section has been added to the contribution guidelines clearly prohibiting machine translation from being used. Umamusume Wiki:Contributing/Guidelines. KevinVG207 (talk) 18:05, 9 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Kevin, I apologize, I didn't see the changes in the guidelines up until today, but even then that's not a good enough excuse to fix what I've done. I'll remove the recently added lyrics, and re-categorize it back into songs without English lyrics.
I can say truthfully that I was not thinking it out fully when using a translator (I can assure you I don't normally do), and I now recognize the effects of my impulsivity. In order to avoid doing this again, I've gotten rid of Google Translate from my apps entirely, so I don't even get the slightest idea about doing it.
I understand that I'm bound to be ticking people off, but as someone who is newer to editing entirely, it is completely resonable to make mistakes. That being said, I will do all of what it takes to own up to these errors, and attempt to progress towards better, higher-quality edits in the future.
Thank you for your corrections,
