Junko Hosoe (細江純子) is the voice actress for Junko Hosoe in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Background
Born in a town named Gamagori, located in Aichi prefecture, Junko Hosoe aspired to be a jockey since she was in high school. She spent much of her time building up her physical strength by biking and going to the gym. In 1993, she enrolled in a horse racing school ran by the Japan Racing Association. She graduated in 1996 alongside Yukiko Masuzawa and Maki Tamura, the three becoming the first female jockeys in the JRA.[1]
Hosoe's first race was on March 2nd, 1996 at Chukyo racetrack, coming in ninth place on the horse Sakura Linen. Her first win was on May 12, 1996 on Kyoto racetrack, riding the horse Raison d'etre. She went on to run in a cumulative 493 races throughout her career, specializing in flat ground racing, and taking home a total of 14 wins.[2] Due to an ongoing injury, on June 15th, 2001, Hosoe decided to retire her career as a jockey.
On January 5th, 2014, she was cast to be a horse racing commentator for Fuji TV's horse racing program Minna no KEIBA, where she garnered fame as a commentator. In September of 2020, she began her own YouTube channel titled "Snack Zunko", where she made many videos about a variety of horse racing topics.[3].
On November 18, 2024, Junko put out a statement detailing that she would be distancing herself from the horse racing world for the foreseeable future.[4]
