Background
Otsubo Yuka (born June 11, 1993[1]) is a Japanese female voice actress and singer. She is from Chiba Prefecture.[2] She is affiliated with EARLY WING.[2]
Graduated from Clark Memorial International High School's voice acting course.[3][4]
The reason she wanted to become a voice actress was that when she watched the anime "Happy Seven - The TV Manga" in her sixth year of elementary school, she was moved by the depth of the stories, such as human drama, and at the same time, she aspired to become a voice actress, a profession where she could move people with just her voice. After that, as she researched the content of voice acting, she was attracted by the wide range of activities that went beyond anime, such as singing and radio personality, and she clearly decided to aim to become a voice actress.[1] At first, her involvement with anime was limited to watching prime-time shows with her family, but when she was sick and bedridden during the day, she found herself wide awake at night and happened to turn on the TV when she saw the aforementioned "Happy Seven." This sparked her interest in anime and she began watching many shows after that.[1]
She has a strong attachment to her role as Toshino Kyoko in "Yuru Yuri," which was her anime debut and the catalyst for her appearances at numerous events. Her autograph features a design that imitates the ribbon worn by Kyoko, and she said, "I designed it that way so that I wouldn't forget that Kyoko is where I started (as a voice actress).[5] In addition, during the cast greeting at the "Yuru Yuri Live Event Nanamorichu♪Risaitaru," which she participated in as a member of the Nanamorichu☆GorakuBu, she was seen crying as she said, "I'm really happy to be able to say that I'm Otsubo Yuka, who plays Toshino Kyoko."
Upon graduating from Clark Memorial International High School, she was recognized for making her anime debut with YuruYuri while still a student there, and was awarded the "Principal Miura Everest Climbing Memorial Award," given to the student with the most outstanding achievements at the school.[4] After graduating, she became a full member of EARLY WING in April 2012, instead of a semi-affiliated member.[6]
At the 7th Seiyu Awards announced on March 2, 2013, she won the Singing Award along with Kana Asumi and Miyu Matsuki as a member of the "Ushiro Kara Hai Yori Tai G" group.[7]
In 2014, she formed the music unit "smileY inc." with creator Yuuyu, and debuted with "Hanayuki" on August 27 of the same year.[8]
On October 31, 2020, her agency's website announced that she had married a 29-year-old man.[9] The website also included comments from Ootsubo's brother and parents.
Since the end of 2022, she has been prone to falling ill, and on January 13, 2023, her agency's website announced that she would be partially restricting her future activities.[10][11] On September 18 of the same year, she revealed on the website that the reason for her poor health and partial activity restrictions was due to a twin pregnancy, and reported that she had given birth to identical twin boys, her first and second children, in August.[12][13]
