Trivia
- Due to her role in the story, she is likely based off of the American-bred and Japanese-trained racehorse Kurofune, who placed fifth in the 2001 Japanese Derby.
- Evidence of her being a stand-in of Kurofune include her racing suit having the colors of Makoto Kaneko Holdings Co. and the name "Perry Steam" being a reference to Commodore Matthew Perry’s fleet that arrived in Japan in 1853 and initiated the country’s opening to the West (an event known as "Perry Expedition"). Perry's ships were black in color, and "black ship" is the meaning of Kurofune's name.
- The term for the expedition in Japanese is "黒船来航 (kurofune raiko)", which was a title for Perry Steam on a newspaper. This is the closest indirect mention of Kurofune's name in the Umamusume universe, and the closest mention of one of Makoto Kaneko's horses.

- Currently, Kurofune is one of the only two horses owned by Makoto Kaneko to have a stand-in, with Perry Steam being the stand-in for Kurofune. Kaneko was known to not allow any of his owned horses to appear in any sort of media, including Umamusume and Derby Stallion. The other horse owned by Kaneko to have a stand-in was Makahiki, in the form of "ツウカア(Tsuukaa)" in the 3rd season of the anime, who was seen to have won against Satono Diamond in the Japanese Derby.
- Other well-known horses owned by Kaneko include Deep Impact, King Kamehameha, Apapane, Sodashi and Kane Hekili. There were early Umamusume designs assumed to be Deep Impact and King Kamehameha. Though they were ultimately scrapped, nor did said horses ever get a stand-in.
