			Casino Drive was expected to debut as a 2 year old, but would suffer from phlegmon after a training incident in June 2007. His debut would be delayed to early 2008, where on February 23rd, he would make his debut over 1800m on dirt at Kyoto Racecourse. Piloted by jockey Yutaka Take, he would win his debut by 11 1/2 lengths.
			Due to the dominant nature of his win, many fans hoped he would go to the United States and run in the Belmont Stakes, after his half siblings Jazil and Rags to Riches won the race in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Owner Hidetoshi Yamamoto and trainer Kazuo Fujisawa would agree to send Casino Drive to compete in the Belmont Stakes. Nobutaka Tada, racing manager for the owner of Casino Drive, to the New York Times: “Since Rags to Riches won last year, we felt we have to be here. It’s sportsmanship. In the race, he would be in touch with the leaders before making his move on the turn to the homestretch, pulling away from his rivals enroute to a 5 3/4 lengths victory. After the race, jockey Desormeaux praised Casino Drive: “I certainly understand how Jazil and Rags to Riches won the Belmont... Yeah, he can run a lot. It’s going to be fun. He’s a phenomenal talent, and we’ve got our hands full with this one."
